The galaxy’s most determined former Jedi is back—and she’s bringing some old friends with her. Ahsoka Tano is returning to Disney+ much sooner than fans might expect, and this time, it’s with the voice actor who helped make her an animated icon.

Ahsoka and Rex in 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars'

Since debuting in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008), Ahsoka has become a major figure in Star Wars lore. Introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan, she began as a bold and sometimes brash young warrior. After being framed for treason, she walked away from the Jedi Order, forging a new path that added layers of nuance and complexity to the wider Star Wars mythos.

Ashley Eckstein originated the voice role in The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Tales of the Jedi, capturing the character’s emotional evolution over more than a decade. Rosario Dawson picked up the mantle in live-action beginning with The Mandalorian and has since carried it into The Book of Boba Fett and her own titular series, Ahsoka.

Ahsoka took a bolder turn with its debut season, diving deep into the mystical aspects of the Force and functioning as a sequel to Rebels. Reactions to the show were mixed, but Lucasfilm has pushed forward, confirming a second season early last year. Production is underway, and Season 2 is slated to launch on Disney+ in 2026.

Rosario Dawson will once again lead the cast, joined by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eman Esfandi, Ivanna Sakhno, Hayden Christensen, and Lars Mikkelsen. Following the loss of Ray Stevenson, Rory McCann will now portray the mysterious Baylan Skoll.

But Ahsoka’s story doesn’t pause until then. Fans will next hear from her in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past, a new four-part animated series launching September 19, 2025. Developed by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, the show follows up on last year’s LEGO adventure and returns to Disney+ with its signature blend of comedy and irreverence.

Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo, the project brought out both Ahmed Best—voicing Darth Jar Jar—and Ashley Eckstein herself, who will portray a wildly different version of Ahsoka this time around.

“When I got the call that I was going to be returning as Ahsoka, I cried […] I’ve missed her so much. I’ve missed you all so much,” StarWars.com reported on the announcement. “This has really been a dream come true. I am such a huge fan of LEGO. I have so many of these Ahsoka BrickHeadz and I now get to voice her!”

Eckstein continued, “Last time I was on this stage, I talked about how Ahsoka lives in all of us, and we’ve really made Ahsoka’s story our own story. We’ve experienced Star Wars for an entire generation through Ahsoka’s eyes… and we’ve literally created our own story through Ahsoka, and that’s what this story is about. There’s so much heart in BrickHeadz Ahsoka, and we’re all going to relate to her. You’re going to love it.”

Though Pieces of the Past isn’t canon, it underscores Lucasfilm’s multipronged approach to storytelling—one that doesn’t limit Star Wars to a single tone or format. While some projects have drawn mixed feedback, the studio continues to explore creative directions.

R2-D2, Luke Skywalker, and Grogu in 'The Mandalorian'

On the film side, The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled for 2026 and will be the first theatrical return to Star Wars since 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX–The Rise of Skywalker. Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter (2027), starring Ryan Gosling, also aims to offer a fresh take.

The franchise’s streaming output has been a mixed bag. The Acolyte was eventually shelved, and Skeleton Crew also received varied responses. On the other hand, Andor Season 2 has received strong acclaim, with recent episodes “Who Are You?” and “Welcome to the Rebellion” landing among the highest-rated on IMDb.

Diego Luna as Cassian Andor

Whether wielding a lightsaber or a LEGO minifigure, Ahsoka continues to bridge generations of fans. With her story spanning from animation to live-action and now comedy, 2025 offers a fresh reminder of just how versatile—and enduring—this Star Wars icon really is.

About Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
