Disney Has Quietly Buried Cara Dune — But ‘Star Wars’ Might Dig Her Back Up

Since her world-famous firing in 2021, Gina Carano has vanished from every corner of the galaxy far, far away. Cara Dune hasn’t enjoyed any appearances at Disney Parks. No merchandise. No animated appearances. No trace. And that silence has spoken volumes.

It’s not just that Gina Carano is gone from Star Wars—it seems that Disney is determined to make sure we forget The Mandalorian‘s ex-shock trooper Cara Dune ever existed.

However, there may be an opening for her return.

With the newly announced DLC (downloadable content) “Pirate’s Fortune” expanding the open-world environment in Ubisoft’s video game “Star Wars Outlaws”, while bringing back the fan-favorite Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka from the animated television shows Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) and Star Wars: Rebels (2018), the game could offer a path back for other legacy characters long thought shelved.

While Disney has made it clear that Gina Carano herself won’t be returning, Cara Dune may not be gone forever.

The flexibility of a video game—especially one set outside the main “Skywalker Saga” and only a few years before The Mandalorian (2019) timeline begins—gives Lucasfilm a safe space to explore what a recast version of Cara Dune might look like.

She could appear in a mission, a side story, even a flashback, voiced by a new actor and redesigned enough to avoid Carano’s likeness. It would be a soft test for the character’s viability—and a way to gauge fan response without committing to anything bigger.

That said, Disney’s treatment of Cara Dune so far has been colder than Hoth during the winter months. Her absence from theme parks, merchandising, and even new Disney+ content suggests the studio is done with the character for good. Most side-lined Star Wars characters at least show up somewhere—but not Dune. She’s been wiped clean.

Still, Star Wars has a long history of revisiting characters. If the demand is there, Cara Dune could sneak back in under the radar—just not in the way fans might remember her.

  1. The fans have made it clear they want Cara Dune back as the original portrayed by Gina Carano. Any replacement voice or actor would be met with cold disapproval. Yes Lucasfilm went full in mean girl petty thanks to its incompetent leader KK and tried to erase Cara Dune but she will not be gone as long as her fans live which means Disney needs to suck it up and settle with Gina Carano soon or all Lucasfilm’s dirty laundry will be on full display and neither KK nor Iger want that to happen.
