It’s no secret that there have been some significant changes to Disney World recently. With additions and closings, attractions, dining, and Resorts have all been touched somehow. Recently, Disney submitted a permit to retire an attraction for good.

On May 31, 2023, and January 23, 2023, Disney’s beloved ride Splash Mountain closed. Walt Disney World’s closure came first in January, with Disneyland in May to follow. In it’s closing, it is being reimagined and reopened in late 2024 as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. With the closing of Splash Mountain, Imagineers had to submit the permit for the termination of equipment as the ride will no longer exist as is. Inside the Magic describes, “This particular permit shows that there are still a few more elements of Splash Mountain that have to be terminated– whether they be theming or mechanical– to make way for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.”

Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain opened on July 17, 1989, and has existed for over 30 years in the Parks. Many of the attraction’s animatronics were actually borrowed from another attraction, America Sings. The attraction featured five drops and a famed final plunge over 52 feet at a 45-degree angle, as recorded by D23. This fun, sing-along ride brought together technology and water for a splashing sensation of a ride. Guests can only hope that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be just as exhilarating.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Tiana’s Bayou is coming right along, and fans are excited about these continuous updates from Disney. Recently, Imagineers installed the water tower for this new adventure, hitting a milestone in creating this new attraction, as seen below.

After the announcement in 2020, Imagineers have been hard at work getting this attraction ready for late 2024. On the ride, Guests will join Princess Tiana and her alligator Louis in a ride through Mardi Gras season. The theme, culture, and music throughout the attraction are all inspired by the hit film, ‘Princess and the Frog’ (2009). Disney writes, “It’s emblematic of what we’re always striving for with our attractions – bringing people of different backgrounds together through timeless Disney stories.”
