Marvel’s next Avengers movie may already have found a surprising new lead.
Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for December 17, 2027, one year after Avengers: Doomsday brings Earth’s Mightiest Heroes back to theaters on December 18, 2026 (or even earlier in some theaters).

Joe and Anthony Russo are directing both films, with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as Victor von Doom.
Doomsday has assembled one of Marvel’s largest casts yet. Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, and Letitia Wright are among those returning.
Several former X-Men stars are also involved, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, and Rebecca Romijn.

Production has remained active, unusually close to release. Additional photography continued in 2026, with recent reports claiming those reshoots added more surprise appearances– including a possible return for Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff.
Scarlet Witch Reportedly Set for Major ‘Secret Wars’ Role
According to insider MyTimeToShineH, Wanda’s role may extend far beyond a cameo.
The scooper claims, “Wanda will be one [of] the main leads in Avengers: Secret Wars.”
Marvel Studios has not confirmed the claim, and Olsen has not officially been announced for either upcoming Avengers movie.
However, the report follows months of rumors surrounding Scarlet Witch’s return.

Previous claims suggested Olsen filmed material connected to Doomsday, potentially for a post-credits scene designed to set up her role in Secret Wars.
Wanda has not appeared in the MCU since Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), when she seemingly died after destroying Mount Wundagore and every copy of the Darkhold.
Marvel never definitively confirmed her death.
Her return would also fit several pieces already in place for Secret Wars. Marvel introduced Billy Maximoff as Wiccan in Agatha All Along, while Doctor Doom is now positioned as the primary threat facing the Avengers.
That combination has fueled speculation that Marvel could borrow elements from Avengers: The Children’s Crusade.
In the comics, Wiccan searches for the missing Scarlet Witch, with Doctor Doom becoming heavily involved in the story.

Marvel would not need to adapt the storyline directly, but its characters offer an obvious route for bringing Wanda back into the center of the MCU.
Marvel Continues Reshaping Its Avengers Plans
The latest report arrives after several major changes to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga.
The fifth Avengers movie was originally announced as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before Marvel moved away from Kang and repositioned Doctor Doom as the saga’s main villain.
The studio also brought the Russo Brothers back to direct both Doomsday and Secret Wars, while Stephen McFeely is writing both films.
Marvel has simultaneously reduced its theatrical output, leaving more space around its two Avengers movies as it approaches the end of the Multiverse Saga.

Scarlet Witch has already played a major role in WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), while her reality-altering abilities make her an obvious fit for a story involving collapsing universes and the Multiverse.
