Disney Park to Shut Down for the Day Later This Month

The New Year is bringing with it several closures and refurbishments (some leading to the opening of entirely new attractions) at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Along with closures for refurbishments and updates, however, entire Disney Parks and select experiences always have the possibility of shutting down for other reasons, too, like inclement weather, special events, and corporate buyouts, just to name a few.

One Disney Park, that only reopened from a lengthy closure due to its annual refurbishment two months ago, has another closure marked on the calendar for January 8, 2023.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is open throughout this month from 10:00 am-5:00 p.m. daily, with the exception of January 8 when Disney has removed the Park hours from its official website and the My Disney Experience app to indicate that the Park will be closed for the day.

Disney has not confirmed a reason for the seemingly random closure of Blizzard Beach, so it is possible that a private event is planned on this date, or that the company is taking advantage of the off-season to complete some extra maintenance work. (For the latter possibility, we should note that the Park undergoes a refurbishment for several months annually.)

For Guests planning to visit Blizzard Beach on January 8, you may now be limited to your Resort pool (assuming it is not undergoing a refurbishment) as Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park is currently closed for its annual refurbishment with no reopening date announced so far.

According to the calendar on Disney’s website, Blizzard Beach will return to its normal operating hours of 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on January 9, 2023, and no additional closures are noted on the calendar so far.

Disney’s official description of Blizzard Beach reads:

Discover a flurry of fun at Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park at Walt Disney World Resort, including waterslides, raft rides, a lazy river and a one-acre wave pool.
