Warner Bros. has confirmed exciting news for Harry Potter fans: Warwick Davis is returning to Hogwarts as Professor Filius Flitwick in the upcoming HBO television series.

Known for his portrayal of the recurring Hogwarts Charms Professor in the Harry Potter film series, Davis has become the first confirmed returning actor from the movie franchise in this reboot, which aims to stick closely to J.K. Rowling’s original seven novels.

Revealed during the annual Back to Hogwarts celebration on September 1 (today), Davis’ involvement is a massive nod to the films, providing continuity for fans even though the new series exists in a separate timeline.

The goblin Flitwick, however, who was portrayed by Davis in later films following the late Verne Troyer’s debut in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), will now be played by Leigh Gill.

The announcement also mentions further students now joining Hogwarts: Elijah Oshin (Dean Thomas), Finn Stephens (Vincent Crabbe), and William Nash (Gregory Goyle), with faculty additions including Sirine Saba (Pomona Sprout), Richard Durden (Cuthbert Binns), and Bríd Brennan (Poppy Pomfrey).

The HBO adaptation has been expanding its Hogwarts cast steadily over the last few months. Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton will play the iconic Hogwarts trio, Harry, Ron, and Hermione, while the teaching staff also includes John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Hagrid), Paapa Essiedu (Snape), Katherine Parkinson (Molly Weasley), Paul Whitehouse (Filch), and Janet McTeer (McGonagall).

Set to debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max, the series promises a faithful retelling of Rowling’s seven books while offering new performances that bridge generations. With Davis now reprising Flitwick, fans can also anticipate a strong link to the iconic film series while discovering Hogwarts anew.
