Buffy is gearing up for a major comeback—and it might transcend our TV screens. With a Hulu revival currently in progress and Disney in control of the IP following its acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, the Slayer’s next moves could reshape the property for a whole new generation.
Earlier this year, Hulu green-lit a Buffy revival pilot. Chloé Zhao, who won an Oscar for the 2020 film Nomadland, is confirmed to direct the first episode. Sisters Nora and Lilla Zuckerman—writers of Poker Face—are steering the script, and Sarah Michelle Gellar will not only reprise her iconic role as Buffy Summers but also executive-produce.
Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew) has been cast as the next “Chosen One,” with both Gellar and the Zuckermans praising her standout audition and emotional depth.

The revival has all the makings of a thoughtful bridge between past and future, aiming to reinvigorate Buffy for longtime fans while drawing in younger audiences. Gellar herself recently said that the new series “will try to find a balance new and old characters.”
If it strikes that balance between old and new, it could spark a whole franchise renaissance: spinoffs, comics, video games—and perhaps even theme park attractions.

Buffy Could Appear in Disney Parks If Successful
Should the revival prove a success, Buffy could one day “stake” claim at Disney Parks. Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century in 2019 gives it full creative control and a well-received series could pave the way for Buffy-themed experiences such as immersive walk-throughs.
It’s not just wishful thinking—Disney loves a multi-platform property. And between the talented creative team and promising cast members (Gellar and Armstrong), the property is in good hands. That could be enough to resurrect Buffy as a multi-generational powerhouse.
