In 2018, Walt Disney World Resort ended one of its long-running conservation-themed attractions at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and one insider recently claimed to know the reason why.

Song of the Rainforest” had been part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park for over 20 years. Located in the Conservation Station in the Rafiki’s Planet Watch area, the attraction was an interactive experience where guests could listen to nature sounds and learn about the importance of rainforest conservation through Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas (1995). Visitors would enter a small, dark booth, put on headphones, and press a button to start the “show,” which played a series of recorded nature sounds while offering lessons on preserving the environment.

The attraction closed in 2018 during a wider renovation project at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, with only its remnants left behind. The doors leading to the old “Song of the Rainforest” booths in the Conservation Station have been sealed off for the past six years, though visitors can still spot them if they know where to look. Reddit user u/Alllllllrighty__Then recently shared photos showing these closed doors, some blocked by stanchions, others with covered signs.

One Reddit user, u/Mammoth_Junket321, commented on the reason for the attraction’s demise, explaining, “Used to be supplied with nature sounds stored on PC,” adding that “Said PC went down and there was no backup. Instead of recreating the tracks, the area was closed and eventually just darkened (this was prior to the animation station drawing classes).” It appears that the technology failure, compounded with the exhibit’s decreasing popularity, contributed to the decision to end the experience altogether.

The post was nostalgic for Disney Parks fans who remember the attraction fondly.

“This is where I first discovered I wasn’t handling my anxiety well,” u/MissMelons recalled. “I wanted to stay in there forever.”

“Loved going into those back in the day,” said u/BobTheCrakhead.

However, others felt that the attraction had outlived its usefulness.

“It was outdated and basically not used,” u/cvaska wrote.

“I remember doing it as a teenager and thinking it was lame,” u/The_Inflicted added.
