A key member of Governor Ron DeSantis’ Florida GOP has been discovered in a trashed hotel room outside of the Walt Disney World Resort after having been reported missing for five days. This is yet another in the embarrassing series of high-profile scandals surrounding the DeSantis administration in the last year and unlikely to help the politician’s fallen image any.

For a time, Governor DeSantis was touted as the future of the Republican Party on a national level. Despite his Ivy League education (which includes degrees from both Yale University and Harvard Law School) and a professional career almost entirely spent running for office, DeSantis adopted the public image of a working-class maverick, winning him two terms as governor. He also campaigned for the GOP nomination for the 2024 presidential election, eventually conceding to Donald J. Trump after a poor showing in the Iowa Caucus.

In addition to the fallout of his failed presidential run, Ron DeSantis has also had to deal with his very public battle with the Walt Disney Company, which happens to be one of the single largest employers in his state and an enormously globally influential corporation. After a series of lawsuits between DeSantis, his Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board of supervisors, and Walt Disney World, things seemed to have settled down a little bit, just in time for another GOP scandal.

George Riley, the executive director of the Florida GOP, was reported missing by his family on Friday (per South Florida Sun Sentinel) after he told his sister and father he was headed to a Hampton Inn on Centerview Boulevard in Kissimmee for a “business meeting.” Apparently, once there, he checked out of his room, booked a different room in the same hotel, and began an alcohol-fueled binge that eventually necessitated the presence of an Osceola Sheriff’s deputy and other Orange County deputies.

The assistant manager of the Hampton Inn reported that George Riley was “regularly purchasing alcohol, and he purchased so much from the store inside the hotel that he had to order more” and had “broken the electric blinds in the room and had urinated and vomited throughout.”

He later asked to extend his stay but was denied ” due to [his] excessive drinking and damage caused to the room,” which necessitated extensive cleaning and repair. The GOP executive director was later discovered via his cell phone in B Resort & Spa in Lake Buena Vista outside Walt Disney World.

George Riley apologized for his actions to the Tampa Bay Times, saying, “I’m deeply sorry. I have been dealing with alcoholism and mental health issues. I will pay for any damages that were caused. I apologize to the employees for my bad behavior and I will be seeking help soon. I’ll be seeking help so I can be a better father, a better person, and a better all-around employee.”

Riley is an influential member of the Florida GOP, which is heavily dominated by Ron DeSantis, making his a de facto close ally to the politician. Riley previously served as the Florida GOP executive director from 2016 to 2019 and has since acted as Executive Director for Conservatives for Clean Energy-Florida and as a Senior Advisor to the Party.

He was re-appointed to the position by GOP Chairman Evan Power, who, along with Governor DeSantis, is attempting to rehabilitate the party’s image in the wake of numerous battles with Disney and a nationally publicized sex scandal that seriously tarnished Republicans in the state.

Former Florida GOP Chairman Christian Ziegler and his wife, Bridget Ziegler, were central figures in a sex scandal with an unnamed woman who revealed she had been having trysts with both, despite their loudly proclaimed family-centered conservative politics. The unnamed woman also accused Christian Ziegler of sexual assault.

Bridget Ziegler, a co-founder of the controversial activist group Moms for Liberty and a DeSantis appointee to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board, is also a close ally of the governor. She is also facing her own calls to step down from her positions but has refused.

Governor DeSantis has been signing a lot of new laws and working for the state of Florida, but it seems only a matter of time before the GOP embarrasses him again.

  1. DeSantis is a little Napoleon a short guy who need power he has unilaterally made laws to please himself and passed them in the middle of the night!
He hired an attorney general who no one knows where the heck he came from and is a dangerous inoculation denier they are both in favor of a six week band on abortion. They are ruining Florida in my opinion.
It was a lot on the books that if the governor was to run for president, he would resign his governor ship, but Ron DeSantis decided that he’s going to change that for himself and when he ran for president, he did not resign his governor ship. He’s the worst governor that has ever had at least in the 35 years that I have been living here. .

  2. So, a person affiliated with the overwhelming largest political party in Florida goes on a drinking binge and the left tries to tie it to Governor DeSantis. The left is grasping at straws, too bad you band straws.

This guy used his money, got drunk, damaged a hotel that he will have to pay for. That’s not news. What the left is doing to the country is news, but you hide that.

  3. I couldn’t have said it better myself!!! I agree with Ms Lawanda 100%. !!!

  4. No! Why should he be responsible for the personal problems of these people. If DeSantis is such a bad Governor why are so many people moving to Florida? I don’t care who moves to Florida, just don’t bring your liberal ways. This is a conservative state and we want to get it that way!!! If you don’t like Florida, I’m sure you’ll be a lot happier living in NY and California!

  5. Desantis is plain and simple nutcase and self-absorbed brat” go back to your mommy and leave us alone!!!!!!

  6. I agree with Vivian. Why are so many people moving to FL Gov. DeSANTIS HAS been the best thing that has happened to us. I wish he could run for 4 more years.

  7. Nice try at a ‘Hit’ piece. Sorry, but Governor cannot be responsible for the actions of the hundreds of people associated with his administration or the GOP party. How about showing the same amount of compassion for someone who has a dependency problem as you would to someone like Hunter Biden. DeSantis happens to be one of the best governors in the country as evidenced by most any metric including the lopsided landslide victory in 2022. Your time and authorship could be better served if you concentrated on the issues we now face as a country thanks to the current administration.

  8. There are many embarrassing behaviors by people in both parties. Why ware we so focused on the negative things people do and not holding the individual responsible for their behaviors. It’s just another attempt to place blame on others and not the individual choices. How about we pay attention to what is wrong with our society….work together to fix all of us. Stop the attacks on the political differences and improve our goals for our nation.

  9. I agree with Barbara 100% & 1000% with Rob & Vivian

  10. I laugh heartily at the propagandist narrative from the leftist community. What a pitiful, miserable bunch and it’s their purpose to make the rest of us as miserable as they are.

  11. Strange how news affiliates blame one person for another’s behavior. I wonder if, when one was close to someone is it necessary to blame you for the actions of others? We all make choices when selecting friends or affiliations, but we rarely have control of their behavior. Mistakes are made, struggles occur, lifestyles are varied so why attach someone else’s behavior to a friend or coworker? Has there been a critical decision made by a person, related to their human behavior, that impacts your life? Too many want to get involved and pass judgement on others. No one is perfect…we all have our foibles. Certainly, everyone has a right to live his/her life to the best of their ability.

  12. This man may be a Republican but what does that have to do with anything except that his name is known. He has an illness that he and his family need time and privacy to heal. Please leave them alone so they may work on the illness without more public scrutiny. We are all human and subject to illness, success and failures, Please be kind. It could be your family next time.

  13. DeSa ntis seems to only be interested in warehousing prisoners in Florida. The Florida Senate did a discovery of the prison system (November 2023) and found that it will take billons to get the buildings up to par yet not one dime has been allocated for this. We have 3 prisons that wee deemed unfit to live in….nothing done. Our 4 Women’s prisons in Ocala have unfit drinking water that is poisoning the inmates with the same chemical that Dupont was sued for…nothing done. Residents around the prison were given bottled drinking water but not the inmates! I was once a big fan of DeSantis and I am incredibly disappointed in him!!!!!

  14. DeSantis is bad for Florida plain and simple can’t wait for him to leave I said what I said and I am not taking it back!

  15. BARBARA—-NORMAL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS DON’T FACE THESE SITUATIONS.
HAVE YOU ACTUALLY VISITED THESE PRISONS?

HOW MANY INMATES HAVE DIED FROM THESE CONDITIONS THAT YOU REFERENCED?

THESE FACILITIES WERE BUILT LONG BEFORE DESANTIS WAS GOVERNOR AND WHILE PRISONS SHOULD BE KEPT CLEAN AND PROVIDE SAFE CONDITIONS, THE CHILDREN AND ELDERLY OF THIS STATE DESERVE PRIOR CONSIDERATIONS.
I APPLAUD YOUR CONCERN ,BUT PUTTING THE BLAME ON OUR GOVERNOR IS NOT WARRENTED.

  16. Deathsantis is responsible for whatever that drunk does since he is the one who put him in the GOP with no one really knowing why! Well he just showed his true drunken self and yes this does reflect on the moronic governor who is totally destroying the state of Florida for doing whatever he wants to even when he is wrong which is “All The Time!” Get his sorry ass out of here!
