Disney is known for its iconic animated films. Along with Pixar, the two merged companies have created some forgettable movies. Coco (2017), Toy Story (1995), and Ratatouille (2007) are just to name a few. With so many amazing films created, it can be difficult for a new one to step in and show up in big ways.

Disney and Pixar’s Elemental (2023) was released on June 16, 2023; initially, it was dubbed a failure at the box office. But now, it’s singing a very different tune about the human-like elements. And if you’ve missed the theater showings, soon you’ll be able to watch it from the comfort of your own home!

‘Elemental’

Disney and Pixar’s Elemental is about friendship, beliefs, and adventure as two opposite elements form a bond and learn more about each other’s world. Originally, Elemental was written off as a box office flop. After not reaching the height of sales the same way Toy Story did, it seemed Disney and Pixar could not replicate what they had previously done with films. The flop of Lightyear (2022) was beginning to look more like its comparison.

“The Pixar movie cleared the $400 million mark at the global box office on Tuesday, becoming the first Hollywood animated movie based on original IP to do so since before the pandemic,” The Hollywood Reporter noted. Furthermore, the film ended Tuesday, August 1, with $146.2 million in domestic and $257.5 million overseas. The overall worldwide total was $403.7 million.

With previous concerns on how the film would do, Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter “fretted when the movie premiered to such lackluster results that the pandemic might have “trained” the audience to wait for animated fare on Disney+ after movies like Soul (2020) and Turning Red (2022) bypassed theatrical runs in the US.” While the pandemic sure did change a lot of things, it is exciting to see that an all-new concept did succeed at the box office. More excitingly, Elemental is now coming home with fans!

If you’ve missed a theater show, now there’s no reason to worry because Elemental is coming home! Beginning August 15, Elemental will be available digitally, with Blue-Ray, DVD, and 4k to follow on September 26.

Watch Ember, the fiery young woman, and Wade, the fun, go-with-the-flow fella. They form a friendship that no one could have predicted. Rated PG, it’s the perfect film for family movie night! Have you seen Elemental yet?
