Theme park entry now looks a little different at Disney California Adventure Park. As part of an ongoing construction project to improve guest entry, the park has temporarily locked one of its entrances to guests. This shift in policy comes as part of a phased rollout to introduce a new entry system that will enhance the guest experience and streamline park access.

In 2024, Disneyland Resort began overhauling its entry system by introducing “tapstiles” to replace traditional turnstiles, allowing guests to enter the parks using MagicBand+ and digital tickets. The phased construction of the new entrance system began last year, starting with Disneyland Park, which welcomed its first guests through the “tapstiles” in December.

Since the installation of the new system, construction crews have been working in stages at the entrances to both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. Rather than overwhelming guests with bottlenecks at a few turnstiles, Disneyland Resort has completed the work one section at a time to reduce the impact on visitors.

Last month, Disneyland Park’s entrance appeared nearly finished, but Disney California Adventure was still lagging behind in its progress. The new entrances feature operational “tapstiles” and digital signage installed on the roofs, and construction walls were also set up around the Minnie Mouse topiary flowerbed at Disneyland Park. Now, the work is almost complete.

According to WDWNT, construction walls have disappeared from the flowerbed and much of the Disneyland Park entrance area. Disney cast members are testing some of the “tapstiles” as they prepare to welcome guests.

Construction on Disney California Adventure Park has progressed more slowly. On Monday, WDWNT reported that crews had installed the final section of construction walls on the leftmost entrance of the park. Guests are currently blocked from using this entrance while the final set of “tapstiles” is installed.

Though Disney has not announced an official completion date for the project, the new system is expected to be fully operational by the time the Disneyland Resort 70th-anniversary celebrations begin on May 16, 2025. The Southern California Disney park’s actual birthday is July 17.
