The former complimentary FastPass and MaxPass system that allowed Disney Park Guests to skip the standby line on select attractions is long gone. Disney has rolled out the welcome mat for Disney Genie+, the new upcharge service now comes at a cost.

While we groan over the additional fee, we are thrilled to share Disney has provided Disney Genie+ purchasers at Disneyland Resort with an updated perk for their purchase.

At Walt Disney World Resort, Park Guests are getting used to paying $15 per person per day if they want to skip the line on select attractions. If Guests want to experience the most popular attractions, however, they will still need to purchase individual Lightning Lane passes, which can range from $8 to $18 depending on the Park crowd level and popularity of the attraction.

At Disneyland Resort, Guests visiting Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure can purchase Disney Genie+ for $20 per person daily. While Disney Genie+ hasn’t been warmly welcomed at any Park, it seems like fewer people are purchasing the service as Disneyland… and even Disney at one point advised Park Guests not to purchase it.

So, how can Disneyland make Genie+ worth the extra cost? Just like Walt Disney World, Disneyland is adding access to Disney PhotoPass Lenses in the Disneyland app with the purchase of its Genie+ service.

Disney has announced, “In addition to unlimited Disney PhotoPass digital downloads, audio tales and the ability to select the next available Lightning Lane entry window, one at a time, for select attractions, the purchase of Disney Genie+ service now includes access to Disney PhotoPass Lenses in the Disneyland app* – some of which are unique to Disneyland Resort!”

Initially launched at Walt Disney World Resort in collaboration with Snap, these interactive photo moments immerse you in Disney stories and make your park memories even more magical. The video below shows how you can take an underwater photo with Marlin and Dory, pose with Grogu and more using augmented reality.”

Now, only time will tell if this additional perk of Disney PhotoPass Lenses when purchasing Disney Genie+ will help make the $20 per person per day worth it while visiting Disneyland Resort.
