Disney Heiress Abigail Disney Arrested

Walt Disney was the mastermind behind our beloved Disneyland. It’s hard to say if he knew the impact his ideas would have on the world even after he passed away. His company, The Walt Disney Company, went from a small animation studio with a cartoonist who had an idea to now one of the largest companies in the world.

From the beginning of everything Disney to the current day, the company has had an unbelievable influence on the world and the Disney family. Walt and his brother Roy both had children whom they tried to shelter from the Disney company, giving them an everyday life. Both of their children went on to start their own families, trying to do the same. It seemed important throughout the Disney family to shield the children from the business world and instead let them have an average childhood.

Now, generations later, the Disney fortune has been left to Walt and Roy’s surviving children and grandchildren. While many of the Disney family have somewhat gone in their own direction, some still have ties to the family business. Abigail Disney, the granddaughter of Roy O. Disney, is an American documentary film producer, philanthropist, and social activist. She has recently made headlines for her social activism.

Abigail Disney Arrested During Protest

Heiress, Abigail Disney has been very vocal about the wealthy, how their money is taxed, and their luxurious lives. Furthermore, she does not shy away from her family name, giving her thoughts a unique outlook as someone technically on the same side as the rich.

This past week, Disney was joined by New York Communities for Change, Planet Over Profit, and Sunrise Movement NYC members. Their protest was against private jets used by the rich to vacation in places like The Hamptons in New York. “According to photos and videos of the incident, Disney and the other protesters formed a blockade at the main entrance of East Hampton Airport, which serves private and charter flights, not commercial,” Fox News reported.

The protest comes as many celebrities and those of such wealthy stature vacation in the Hamptons. Disney responded;

“As a person who has been privileged enough to use private jets, I know it’s hard to give up a luxury that is special,” Disney said in a statement Friday. “But I also know that the time has passed for spewing greenhouse gasses like this merely for our personal comfort.”

Seemingly, the protest will continue. Today, July 16, they will protest near the Sebonack Golf Course in Southampton, a private course. On Monday, July 17, they will protest at the home of a Citibank board member with pitchforks.
