Guests who spend New Year’s Eve at Disneyland Paris this year may notice something different when the skies light up above Sleeping Beauty Castle. Disney has confirmed that its current nighttime spectacular will not run as usual — an adapted version is on the way.

The news underscores how central fireworks have become to the Disney theme park identity. Since the 1950s, Disney parks have used evening shows as a signature send-off, beginning with Walt Disney’s original Disneyland in California. Today, nearly every Disney castle park ends the night with pyrotechnics, often combined with projections and music to create a sweeping finale.

Fans expect nothing less at Disneyland Paris, where entertainment has long been used as a way to set the resort apart. Its nighttime productions are among the most technically advanced across the company, using drones, lasers, and projection mapping to transform the park’s fairytale icon into a canvas for storytelling.

The current production, Disney Tales of Magic, debuted in January 2025. The show runs for over 20 minutes and replaced Disney Illuminations. Featuring fountains, drones, fireworks, and projections, it was designed to celebrate the full breadth of Disney and Pixar stories. Its original theme song, “Live in Magic,” ties together the narrative arcs.

Audience reaction has been largely positive. Drone-led formations around the castle during The Lion King sequence have been called standout moments, while the fireworks-heavy finale creates an emotional climax. Some fans have noted abrupt shifts between segments, though the general consensus is that the show has redefined what nighttime spectaculars can achieve.

Now, the production is set for a temporary change. In a notice published online, the company stated, “On 31 December, this show will be presented in an adapted version to allow for extended Park opening hours.”

Specifics were not detailed, but history offers clues. New Year’s Eve at Disneyland Paris has previously featured a midnight countdown beamed onto Sleeping Beauty Castle, followed by a celebratory fireworks display to ring in the new year.

The schedule confirms that Disneyland Park will stay open until 1 a.m., while Walt Disney Studios Park will close earlier at 10 p.m. The extended hours are expected to funnel crowds into the main park for the midnight celebration.

This may also prove advantageous for visitors more interested in attractions than fireworks. After 10 p.m., lines for rides often shrink as guests claim viewing spots along Main Street, U.S.A. Thrill-seekers can enjoy (or brave) Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, which recently got an exterior update in the form of lights) or Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril with far shorter waits, while families may gravitate toward Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan’s Flight, or “it’s a small world.”

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, one of the resort’s most popular coasters, offers a unique perk for those who time it right: an outdoor ride with sweeping views of the fireworks show from a distance.

Meanwhile, Walt Disney Studios Park continues to draw its own crowds earlier in the night. Attractions such as Avengers Assemble: Flight Force, Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure, Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy, and Crush’s Coaster – an unmissable project from a hugely endearing man – remain in high demand. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror adds an atmospheric thrill, especially for guests visiting after dark.

With a tailored version of Disney Tales of Magic set to usher in 2026, Disneyland Paris is positioning its New Year’s Eve offering as more than just a fireworks show — it’s a full-scale celebration that blends extended hours, entertainment, and attractions into one of the most memorable nights of the year.
