The Disney World Ride Ready for A Powerline Makeover

If we listen to each other’s heart (or if Disney listens to our hearts) we could have a Powerline ride soon.

Walt Disney World has seen some exciting new attractions recently, including EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Magic Kingdom’s TRON Lightcycle / Run.

But a Disney ride we’d love to see is one centered on Powerline from A Goofy Movie (1995), and there are some options in the theme parks that we think are ready for a Powerline makeover.

A Goofy Movie revolves around the father-son relationship between Goofy and high-school-age Max, as Goofy embarks on a misguided mission to bond with his son by taking him on a cross-country fishing trip to Idaho. Max, on the other hand, has other plans after promising his love interest, Roxanne, that he will be at the Powerline concert in Los Angeles.

The movie’s soundtrack has gained a cult following, with songs like “After Today,” “Stand Out,” and “I 2 I” becoming staples of  Disney fans’ playlists.

In exciting news for A Goofy Movie fans, Max Goof began appearing in a Powerline cosplay at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in the Magic Kingdom last year. ’90s kids would cheer and clap as Max danced down Main Street U.S.A. in his Powerline costume – well, we know we did when we attended the beloved Disney Halloween party! On occasion, Max and Goofy have also been known to perform their iconic “perfect cast” dance routine at Moonlight Magic events, which are exclusive to members of Disney Vacation Club.

But with ’90s movies, fashion, and music trending right now, which Walt Disney World attraction needs to have a Powerline makeover? Well, here are our top choices across the Disney Parks!

Splash Mountain

Disney’s iconic attraction, Splash Mountain, has recently closed at the Walt Disney World Resort (and soon to be at the Disneyland Resort), and Disney fans are torn over the iconic water ride being transformed into a new attraction.

With Disney’s push to be more “inclusive,” the Disney ride is being revamped due to its controversial Song of the South (1946) theme. Splash Mountain is becoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in 2024 and will continue the story of Princess Tiana and Naveen from The Princess and the Frog (2009).

But what if the iconic water ride secretly became A Goofy Movie ride instead?

The Magic Kingdom attraction could become the Colorado River and send Guests on a crazy ride just like Goofy and Max in the movie. We’re not sure the log flume could be turned into a “car flume,” but we would certainly go from one catchy soundtrack in “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah” to “Stand Out” and “I 2 I”! The Grand Canyon setting would also suit the Frontierland area of Magic Kingdom, too!

Dinosaur

OK, so hear us out. This classic dark ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has been there since the theme park opened back on April 22, 1998. Originally named “Countdown to Extinction”, the ride’s name was changed to Dinosaur in 2000 to promote the Disney animated film of the same name.

The prehistoric Disney ride is turbulent and beloved but is starting to show its age. Furthermore, the rest of DinoLand U.S.A. has lost some of its magic lately, with another attraction – Primeval Whirl – being demolished to become a seating area. Disney Park fans have also discussed the possibilities of what Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama could be turned into.

So, with that all being said, how fun would Dinosaur be as A Goofy Movie ride? The attraction could be inspired by the “On the Open Road” song sequence, with the ride vehicle becoming Max and Goofy’s car as they road-trip across America to get to the Powerline concert.

The dark ride could go through Lester’s Possum Park, meet Bigfoot and the “Perfect Cast,” drive into the Grand Canyon and down the Colorado River, and end up in Los Angeles. All with the epic movie soundtrack along for the ride.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith

Here’s the big one. And it’s one that potentially could have some legs to it.

We’re dreaming about this indoor launched roller coaster being changed into a Powerline ride. The plot of A Goofy Movie would lend itself perfectly to the structure of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, with the track becoming Max and Goofy’s road trip adventure to get to the Powerline concert.

Interestingly, Universal Music Group has recently gained control of the Aerosmith music catalog. Disney and Aerosmith had a contract that would stand even with the exchange of the catalog rights, but it is rumored that this contract is set to expire soon. And this means that the Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster featuring Aerosmith may have to be reimagined.

So what better music act to replace Aerosmith than the ’90s legend, Powerline? A new pre-show could even be created to explain to riders that Goofy and Max are rushing to get to the Powerline concert and that Goofy is trying to get Max on stage. Riders would then take a wild ride to the concert while Powerline music blasts through the ride’s speakers.

We would lose our voices singing along to “Stand Out” while screaming at nearly 60 m.p.h.!

Those are our idea, but which Walt Disney World Resort attraction at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom do you think should be turned into a Powerline ride?
