The Carousel of Progress is one of the few attractions at Walt Disney World Resort that Walt Disney himself had personal involvement with.
The Carousel of Progress
A massive fan of innovation and the American family, Walt Disney felt very passionate about the attraction that debuted at the 1964 World’s Fair. Anyone who has visited the Magic Kingdom since 1975 would be familiar with the show/ride. Although it’s not as popular as it once was, it still holds a spot in the heart of many hardcore Walt Disney World fans.
And, of course, everyone who experiences it can’t get the song “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” by the Sherman Brothers out of their heads.
But among many of the fans of the classic attraction is Jamie Lee Curtis. She has been a star of multiple Disney projects through the years and stars as Madame Leota in the new Haunted Mansion (2023) movie that is hitting theaters later this month.

During an interview on TikTok, she was asked the question “If you could do another movie based on a Disney ride, what would it be?”
Her answer was the Carousel of Progress.
“So, my favorite ride/attraction was something called the Carousel of Progress,” she said, “which is only now at Disney World. But it was the GE Carousel of Progress, and I loved it. So I would want to make a movie of the Carousel of Progress, which is basically time travel. It’s about technology and has changed over the years.”

The Carousel of Progress operated at Disneyland from 1967 until 1973, which must have been when Jamie Lee Curtis saw it. As we all know, Walt Disney Studios has no reservations about taking a popular or iconic attraction and turning it into a full-length feature film. Perhaps The Carousel of Progress could be the next one they make.

The Haunted Mansion (2023)
The interview with Jamie Lee Curtis was to help promote the upcoming film Haunted Mansion (2023). The new movie follows a doctor, played by Rosario Dawson, and her son as they move into a haunted house in New Orleans. The star-studded cast not only features Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota but has Jared Leto as the Hatbox Ghost and appearances by Owen Wilson as a priest and Danny DeVito as a historian.
The new movie is set to hit theaters on July 26, 2023.
