If you’re dreaming of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation in 2026, it’s time to rethink how you plan. Disney is making some notable changes that will affect family visits, from ride access to dining options. Understanding these shifts now will help you get the most out of your magical trip next year.

Virtual Queues Are Phasing Out

Virtual Queues have been a key part of the Disney Park experience for several years, helping guests secure access to popular attractions without waiting in long lines. Hits like TRON Lightcycle / Run, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance all relied on this system after opening. Guests would log into the My Disney Experience app early in the morning to try to snag a spot, with a second chance available midday for those already inside the park.

However, Walt Disney World Resort is moving away from this system. On February 25, 2025, the last two rides using Virtual Queues—Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind—ended the practice. Guests no longer have to strategize around Virtual Queues and will instead use standby lines or Lightning Lane access for these attractions.

While Virtual Queues may return with upcoming new lands, such as the Disney Villains area at Magic Kingdom Park or the Pueblo Esperanza expansion at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, those openings aren’t expected until 2027 at the earliest. This means Virtual Queues won’t be part of the equation for families planning Walt Disney World Resort vacations in 2026.

Family Dining No More?

EPCOT has always been a family favorite for its diverse dining options and cultural experiences. But next year, a new addition is changing the scene. GEO-82, a sophisticated lounge themed around Spaceship Earth, will open on June 4, 2025, offering upscale small plates and craft cocktails.

Guests should note that GEO-82 will be an adults-only venue, welcoming only those aged 21 and over. This makes it one of the few locations in Walt Disney World Resort that won’t be family-friendly. Advanced reservations will be necessary and open 60 days in advance.

This new dynamic means families planning their meals in 2026 will want to consider which dining options suit everyone in their party.

Change is constant at Walt Disney World Resort, and 2026 will be no different. With Virtual Queues disappearing and new adult-exclusive venues arriving, planning will look different than in previous years.
