Disney World Attractions Banning Loose Items

One of Disney’s top priorities has always been guest safety, so it should come as no surprise that certain rules have to be put in place to ensure this happens at Walt Disney World Resort.

Disney World is home to four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Each Disney Park offers attractions for guests of all ages, shows, and much more. Disney Parks are home to rides for smaller children, thrill rides, parades, and shows.

Disney has recently started banning loose items on certain attractions. Thrilling attractions such as TRON Lightcycle / Run and Space Mountain are moving away from loose items. While TRON Lightcycle / Run has not banned loose items completely, guests are encouraged to place items in a locker or the space at the front of the attraction.

However, Space Mountain is moving away completely from loose items. Before guests head into the attraction, a new sign is located outside of Space Mountain informing guests that loose items are not permitted.

Loose items such as bags, backpacks, and loose clothing have been a concern at some attractions, particularly those with high-speed or turbulent elements. To address this, Disney has implemented strict rules regarding the secure stowage of such items. Guests are encouraged to use designated storage bins or pouches provided on the rides to secure their belongings. Cast members enforce these rules to ensure all items are properly stored before the attraction begins.

Though your phone and other loose items are not banned from these attractions, you are not permitted to have them unsecured without riding. You can see the sign below.

While Disney World has not gone as far as Universal Orlando, where certain attractions that prohibit certain loose items go through metal detectors before allowing guests on to the attraction, this may be a thought in the future for Disney if guests continue to sneak loose items or use their phones when not allowed.

Disney’s crackdown on certain objects in attractions is not meant to dampen the magic but to enhance it by ensuring that Disney World guests can enjoy the parks safely.

This is still a relatively new development for many attractions, so we will have to wait and see what other responses might happen in the coming months.
