A wave of inclement weather swept through Central Florida on Tuesday afternoon, forcing Walt Disney World Resort to temporarily shut down 25 attractions across all four theme parks simultaneously.
Why So Many Rides Closed at Once
While many Disney Park attractions can continue operating in the rain, lightning in the area triggers mandatory closures across a wide range of rides — both outdoor and, in some cases, indoor — to protect the safety of guests and cast members. The closures peaked around 3:30 p.m. on June 30, with the My Disney Experience app reflecting the full scope of the shutdowns in real time.
Magic Kingdom: Eleven Closures
Magic Kingdom Park took the hardest hit of the four theme parks, with eleven attractions going down across five lands.
In Adventureland: Pirates of the Caribbean, Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Jungle Cruise, and Swiss Family Treehouse.
On Main Street, U.S.A.: Walt Disney World Railroad.
In Tomorrowland: Space Mountain and Tomorrowland Speedway.
In Frontierland: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
In Fantasyland: “it’s a small world,” Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
EPCOT: Seven Closures
EPCOT was the second-most-affected park, with seven closures across four neighborhoods.
In World Showcase: Frozen Ever After, Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
In World Discovery: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Test Track.
In World Celebration: Spaceship Earth.
In World Nature: Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park: Four Closures
Four attractions went down at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, split between two lands.
In Asia: Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids, and Maharajah Jungle Trek.
In Africa: Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Three Closures
Disney’s Hollywood Studios rounded out the afternoon with three closures across three different areas of the park.
In Toy Story Land: Slinky Dog Dash.
In Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
In Echo Lake: Walt Disney Presents: Vacation Fun.
Walt Disney World Resort typically does not offer specific explanations for individual attraction closures beyond broad categories such as “inclement weather” or “technical issues.” For the most current operational status during your visit, the My Disney Experience app remains the most reliable real-time resource.
