What to Know about the Incoming Magic Kingdom Lounge

“Drink up me hearties…” Magic Kingdom, the Disney park that was once adamant about excluding alcohol, is now preparing for its first-ever lounge.

Alcohol at Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney World Resort once featured a “dry” Magic Kingdom Park, meaning no alcoholic beverages were served on the park property. However, in 2012, this all changed when the park welcomed Be Our Guest Restaurant in New Fantasyland.

Be Our Guest Restaurant boasted a wine and beer menu, and guests responded by flocking to the ever-so-popular restaurant.

Now, joining ranks with EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs – Magic Kingdom serves alcohol at all table-service restaurants. What has been missing? Unlike the other Disney Resort parks, Magic Kingdom hasn’t offered a walk-up lounge or bar setting… yet.

Magic Kingdom’s Lounge

In 2023, at the Destination D23 event in Orlando, Florida, Walt Disney World announced the first-ever Magic Kingdom lounge.

Excitement spread after the news was revealed of a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge coming to Adventureland:

“A new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge is coming to Adventureland at Magic Kingdom Park. This first-of-its-kind experience will extend the story of Pirates of the Caribbean. Imagineers are in the design process now—more details to come in the future! #DestinationD23”

The Story Doesn’t End With Jack

Captain Jack Sparrow and Pirates of the Caribbean movie enthusiasts will be thrilled to hear that this lounge will not just be filled with pirate decor; it will also reportedly “extend the story of Pirates of the Caribbean.”

This means that fans who have just ridden the slow-moving Pirates of the Caribbean boat ride that inspired the films — or perhaps fans who want to enjoy the ride but are trying to get in some extra pirate fun before enduring a notoriously long wait time — can relax in a comfortable pirate area that keeps their imagination solidly in Caribbean seas during the 1700s.

Bring Back the Barker Bird!

Imagineers are apparently still “in the design process now,” so it will be a while before we get to enjoy this lounge in Adventureland — but when it’s ready, the lounge will also include Barker Bird, the beloved parrot from the Enchanted Tiki Room show!

The Barker Bird is a talking mechanical parrot who was used to bring in theme park guests by talking about the Tiki Room as they passed by. The Barker Bird (AKA Juan) reportedly “became the main attraction himself and was so popular that people would gather just to watch him speak.”

Back in the day, Juan’s popularity became a liability as he “disrupted traffic flow in the area,” — but being placed in a lounge near seated guests instead of a high-traffic area like a show entrance will probably suit the Barker Bird parrot well!

Now, we just hold tight and wait for the opening details for this new Magic Kingdom lounge.

Are you excited about this new pirate offering in Disney World, or do you wish Magic Kingdom would stay a “dry” park? Let us know in the comments.
