As some Walt Disney World Resort guests mourn the overwhelming number of rides closing for refurbishment in 2025, some parents are celebrating the shutdown of an attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

Attractions like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Hall of Presidents, and Astro Orbiter are set to close for months at a time beginning in 2025. Although some Disney Parks fans have argued that Walt Disney World Resort is giving up on attracting guests in the next year, others aren’t so disappointed about certain shuttered rides.

Parents on Reddit recently discussed the refurbishment of Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. The water ride, located in the Asia section of the Disney park, is set to close on January 6, 2025. Walt Disney World Resort said the attraction will open sometime in March but has yet to provide an exact date.

The multi-month closure might be disappointing to some Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park guests, but many say it will be a relief not to get soaked on a water ride during the colder months of the year.

“Not all refurbishment down times are bad…,” u/JustLurkCarryOn wrote on Reddit. “I am looking at you, Kali River Rapids. Thank you for going down during my visit in February so I don’t have to worry about my kids forcing me to go on with them and getting uncomfortably soaked.”

Hundreds of Disney Parks fans upvoted the post, and many commented in agreement.

“Getting soaked at a theme park is also one of my ‘do not want’ things,” said u/CantaloupeCamper. “Some folks love it and more power [to] them, but not me.”

“We are going in February too, and 100% we are NOT sad about ‘missing out’ on Kali,” u/strberri01 replied. “The last time we rode that, we got drenched and it was about 300 degrees and HUMID…My husband and I had to detour back to the hotel to change into dry clothes, because due to the RIDICULOUS humidity, our clothes were somehow not drying at all and were chafing the heck out of us. It was awful. I have NEVER understood why people enjoy getting soaked.”

“That ride stinks,” u/rspect1212 agreed. “It’s only got one freaking drop!!”

Still, a few Disney Parks fans were sad about missing out on Kali River Rapids–even in the winter.

“Boo! That was the one thing I was looking forward [to],” u/beer_before_friends wrote. “…Ah well.”
