Rumors surrounding Walt Disney World rides, attractions, theme parks, and construction is nothing new. However, one rumor swirling around Disney communities a few months ago was particularly interesting. Why? Because it’s 100% possible.

The Rumor

Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom is home to many classic Disney World attractions. Its lineup consists of Big Thunder Mountain, the Country Bear Jamboree, Tom Sawyer Island, and, until recently, Splash Mountain. As Splash Mountain has recently closed to be rethemed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, rumors have circulated that the entire Frontierland section of the Park may also be rethemed. The rumor, shared on social media, shows the area encompassing the Country Bear Jamboree, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and various shops and restaurants. The rumor also includes talk of a reimagined Country Bears attraction.

Why it Makes Sense

This rumor has gained steam due to its similarity to how Disneyland Park is laid out. Although the Magic Kingdom is based on the original Disneyland Park, it’s not a 100% clone. In fact, one of the most significant differences is that Disneyland has a section named New Orleans Square. This Park area is between Adventureland and Critter Country (another area of the Park that houses Winnie the Pooh and the former Splash Mountain). New Orleans Square in Disneyland is where you will find Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, and presumably Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Rumors have speculated for years that Splash Mountain would be rethemed to The Princess and the Frog (2009) – since that film takes place in New Orleans and Splash Mountain was located right next to the New Orleans area of the Park.

Although the rumor places Thunder Mountain off on its own, separate from the rest of the land – that’s similar to how Disneyland has Thunder Mountain positioned, too.

The rumor may or may not be true and only time will tell. But it does seem out of place to have a Princess Tiana-themed ride in the middle of Frontierland – since neither the film nor the ride takes place in a Western or Frontier-like setting. So could the area be rethemed? Of course!

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
