Nicknamed the “Most Magical Place on Earth,” the massive Florida theme park resort is a destination for weddings, honeymoons, family vacations, and fond childhood memories. Well…usually.

The property spans four theme parks (Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom), two water parks (Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon), and many hotels, restaurants, and shops spread through its Central Florida footprint.

The Disney Wedgie Lawsuit

A couple who visited the Walt Disney World Resort is now suing the vacation spot due to a “painful wedgie” experienced at the Typhoon Lagoon water park.

One of the water park’s largest attractions is the Humunga Kowabunga. The massive ride drops park guests down Mount Mayday for nearly five stories.

Walt Disney World Resort describes the ride as the following:

“Brace yourself for the ride of your life as you race down Mount Mayday at a 60-degree angle. These 3 side-by-side enclosed body slides make for some high-octane thrills. You won’t know what’s coming as you zoom 214 feet downhill in the dark and spray your way to a surprise ending!”

According to court documents, the suing couple visited Typhoon Lagoon in the summer of 2022. They claim that the experience turned into a nightmare and the water slide caused a “painful wedgie” and other serious injuries.

The water slide sends guests down the nearly five-story drop (the size of Splash Mountain’s drop) without rafts or tubes. The woman involved in the lawsuit said that as she was nearing the end of the slide, “her body lifted up, she [became] airborne, and she was slammed downward against The Slide – which increased the likelihood of her legs becoming uncrossed.”

The mention of her legs being uncrossed refers to the safety instructions given for the slide and the subsequent injuries she sustained. She claims that the impact on the water caused a “painful wedgie” and immediate bleeding.

The lawsuit also mentions that she went to multiple hospitals and “suffered severe and permanent bodily injury” to her private area and “damage to her internal organs.”

She and her husband are now suing Disney for over $50,000. They are accusing the company of negligence and failing to warn them of the dangers. They also say Disney failed to provide her (and other riders) with proper protective clothing.

As of this writing, Walt Disney World Resort has not commented on the filed Disney wedgie lawsuit.

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
