Disneyland Shuts Down Entrances, Denying Entry to Guests Amid Sudden Disruption

Disneyland Resort has blocked off another section of theme park entrances as the Southern California Disney park prepares for its upcoming 70th-anniversary celebration. Phased construction began last year when Disneyland Park introduced “tapstiles,” which let guests use MagicBand+ and other digital theme park tickets.

Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and Downtown Disney will begin celebrating Disneyland Resort’s 70th anniversary on May 16, though the Anaheim, California, destination’s birthday isn’t until July. Disney recently announced numerous new entertainment options coming for Disneyland70, including “The Celebrate Happy Cavalcade” starring Duffy and ShellieMay, the all-new “World of Color Happiness!”, and the “Tapestry of Happiness” projection show on “it’s a small world.”

Attraction changes are coming, too. Characters from Pixar’s Coco (2017) will also join other stylized Disney characters inside “it’s a small world” at Disneyland Park. At Disney California Adventure Park, Toy Story Midway Mania! will receive a Disneyland70-themed refresh.

Disneyland70 will also feature returning entertainment offerings. The Paint the Night nighttime parade and “Wondrous Journeys” fireworks show will return to Disneyland Park, while the “Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration!” parade will reappear at Disney California Adventure Park.

Disneyland Resort opened its first “tapstiles” in December and added construction barricades to another part of the Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park entrances. Crews have completed construction in phases–instead of drastically reducing the number of theme park entrances, work is done in sections.

On Thursday, WDWNT reported that the work on Disneyland Park’s entrance is half-done, and barricades now surround the third of four turnstile sections. Crews continue to work on the Disney California Adventure Park entrance. The completed entrances have functional “tapstiles” and informative screens on the roof.

WDWNT reported that construction walls also surround half of the iconic flowerbed at the entrance to Disneyland Park. The landscaping typically features flowers in the shape of Mickey Mouse but currently depicts Minnie Mouse to celebrate Women’s History Month.

While it’s unclear what these construction walls are for, they’re likely unrelated to the turnstile construction. Guests can still enter Disneyland Park via the nearby tunnel under the Main Street, U.S.A., Disneyland Railroad station.
