First responders rushed to Disneyland Resort on Wednesday after numerous guests collapsed in a Southern California heat wave.

This week, the National Weather Service issued a stern warning to locals and visitors in Orange County, California. The dangerous weather picked up on Wednesday, and temperatures are expected to rise daily through Sunday.

The peak of the heat wave is predicted to hit Friday and Saturday, with heightened fire weather conditions. An excessive heat advisory will take effect at 11:00 a.m. PST Friday, July 5, and last through 11:00 p.m. PST Saturday, July 6.

Wait times are much lower than typical for a holiday weekend, suggesting that Disney Parks fans canceled visits to Disneyland Park, Downtown Disney, and Disney California Adventure Park. Guests who visited Disneyland Resort this week say the increased temperature endangered multiple visitors on Wednesday.

“Just saw my third wheelchair or stretcher in an hour for people, guess it must be heat related,” said u/chiangku on Reddit. “Drink plenty of fluids, watch your heat response. Especially if you suddenly stop sweating even though it feels real hot.”

Disney Parks fans shared tips for staying hydrated, cool, and healthy at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.

“Don’t forget there’s drinking fountains throughout the parks,” u/BobbaYagga57 wrote. “It may taste like metal, but when you’re hot and thirsty they’re a godsend.”

u/dorianslaaay suggested stopping at Quick Service restaurants for fountain water–a service they wish they had used during a recent visit to the Southern California Disney theme parks:

“You can also ask for water at most food places! I got sun stroke Monday at the park because I didn’t drink enough -.-”

“Do not get in line without a water bottle,” u/cioncaragodeo agreed. “I once made that mistake for the coaster and near the front of the line started to feel lightheaded from standing in the heat so long. Before I realized it I was being treated by medics because I apparently passed out and hit my head on the way down.”

It can also help to switch between indoor and outdoor attractions regularly.

“We did [Pirates of the Caribbean] 3x, love the dark rides on a hot day,” u/sunribbon commented.

“I was stuck in Little Mermaid for a while last Saturday and didn’t mind at all,” u/kippykipsquare replied. “I miss the Frozen show at Hyperion.”

No matter the temperature, remember your sun protection. Skin damage is a risk, even on cloudy days.

“Please protect your skin!” said u/ReginaGeorgian. “Broad-brimmed hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, UPF clothing (Uniqlo has an airism summer line), the UV index is super high right now and you will get burned if your skin is exposed!”
