Disneyland Resort’s Indiana Jones Adventure recently faced an unexpected shutdown, leaving guests trapped in the middle of their journey through the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. The ride, which has thrilled visitors since its opening in 1995, was one of Disney’s first major collaborations with George Lucas before the company acquired Lucasfilm.
Over the years, Indiana Jones Adventure has become a staple of Disneyland Park’s Adventureland, known for its thrilling, unique ride system. The innovative system has only been employed on one other Disney Park attraction: DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Now, as part of the upcoming Pueblo Esperanza expansion, the Walt Disney World Resort ride will undergo an Indiana Jones transformation, distinct from its sister attraction at Disneyland Resort.
In 2023, Disneyland Resort shut down Indiana Jones Adventure for a three-month refurbishment to address long-standing technical issues and repair special effects. Though many hoped the fixes would keep the ride running smoothly, Indiana Jones Adventure is still facing problems. Just last week, a guest shared a video of their experience on the ride after it unexpectedly shut down mid-journey, forcing Disney cast members to evacuate all riders.
The video, shared by TikTok user @pixiepr1ncessbritt, shows the guest and their group after waiting 30 minutes to board Indiana Jones Adventure, only to find themselves stuck halfway through the ride. Disney cast members turn on the overhead lights before helping them out of the attraction vehicles.
@pixiepr1ncessbritt WELP THIS WAS AN EXPERIENCE 😆 The nerd in me secretly enjoys seeing the behind the scenes on the rides! #indianajones #disneyland #disneylandparks #disneyparks #disneylandcalifornia #disney #disneylandresort #disneyfyp #disneylandrides #ridepov #indianajonesbreaksdown #fypdisney @Disney Parks @Disney
“This is super weird,” the TikToker said in the video. “It’s silent and the lights are on.”
Despite the disruption, the guest maintained a positive outlook. “The nerd in me secretly enjoys seeing the behind the scenes on the rides!” they said afterward.
Disneyland Resort rarely comments on minor technical issues, and this instance was no exception. Indiana Jones Adventure reopened shortly after the evacuation and continued to operate normally as of the finalization of this article.
