Dolly Parton’s return to Dollywood this week was more than just a routine reopening event — it was a powerful reminder of her enduring legacy. Just weeks after the loss of her husband, Carl Dean, Dolly surprised passholders with a heartfelt appearance to share big news about the park’s future.

A Peek at What’s Coming To Dollywood

Dolly’s surprise appearance came with big news about Dollywood’s upcoming projects. During the reopening event, she shared a teaser for the park’s 2026 attraction.

While specifics remain under wraps, Dollywood President Eugene Naughton confirmed the exciting development as the most ambitious the park has ever done. Dolly herself added the all-important detail: “And expensive!”

The teaser for the 2026 attraction showed breathtaking shots of the Great Smoky Mountains at night, with the tagline “take flight 2026” leaving fans buzzing with anticipation. Dolly’s love for the Smokies is evident in her work, and she reflected on it during the event, saying, “I love the Smoky Mountains, especially at nighttime.” The new attraction promises to take that love to new heights, possibly with an aerial or flight-themed experience designed to showcase the mountains’ beauty from an entirely new perspective.

This is only one of many exciting developments at Dollywood. For 2025, the park is unveiling a series of upgrades, including a new restaurant in Wilderness Pass and a revamped Country Fair area. Dolly humorously addressed the facelift, adding, “If you see something sagging or dragging, you need it plucked or tucked!” These updates, along with a new attraction in the Imagination Playhouse, reflect Dolly’s dedication to keeping the park fresh, fun, and welcoming for everyone.

Remembering Carl Dean

Dolly’s emotional appearance also served as a touching moment of reflection on her late husband, Carl Dean, who passed away earlier this month at 82.

In front of a supportive crowd, Dolly expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of love and condolences, saying, “I just want to say thank you and I love you for all the flowers, cards and well-wishes.” Her words were a reminder of the deep love she shared with Carl, who had been an integral part of her life for nearly 60 years.

The couple’s relationship was famously private, but Dolly has always been open about her affection for her husband. “I was surprised and delighted that while he talked to me, he looked at my face (a rare thing for me),” Dolly recalled of their first meeting outside a laundromat in Nashville.

Carl was the inspiration behind many of her songs, including the iconic “Jolene,” which Dolly explained was born out of a playful moment involving Carl’s frequent trips to the bank. “He just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention,” Dolly shared, revealing that the song’s inspiration was less sinister than it sounds.

Looking Ahead to Dollywood’s Bright Future

As Dollywood continues to evolve, it remains a testament to Dolly Parton’s vision — a place where her legacy is celebrated and expanded upon.

New attractions, renovations, and personal updates only add to the park’s reputation as a beloved destination in the Smoky Mountains. And while Dollywood’s future is filled with exciting developments, it’s clear that Dolly’s heart and soul will always be at the core of it all.

With an exciting new chapter unfolding, there’s never been a better time to experience the magic of Dollywood. Whether you’re there for the thrilling rides, the mouthwatering food, or to catch a glimpse of Dolly’s larger-than-life personality, Dollywood promises a unique adventure that only Dolly could create. The park’s future looks brighter than ever, and for fans of Dolly Parton and Dollywood alike, that’s something worth celebrating.
