Scaffolding surrounding the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion pyramid at EPCOT has expanded dramatically since one entrance closed on February 10, now extending toward backstage areas with no reopening date announced.
As of February 24, construction supports have grown well beyond the initially blocked doorway. On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that scaffolding now extends farther to the left toward the World Discovery and World Celebration neighborhoods:
Single Entrance Creates Bottleneck
The left-side entrance/right-side exit has been blocked for two weeks. A sign inside directs Disney Park guests to use the remaining left-side exit as the sole access point for the pyramid housing San Angel Inn Restaurante, Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros, and most pavilion shops.
A support column installed near interior exit doors suggests crews are working on ductwork or interior infrastructure. All offerings inside the pyramid continue operating despite the construction.
Construction Zone Grows in Mexico at EPCOT
Scaffolding initially surrounded just the closed entrance. The expanded supports now cover a much larger area extending toward backstage zones, indicating more extensive work than the single blocked doorway suggested.
The growing construction presence raises questions about project scope. Walt Disney World Resort has provided no information about what’s being repaired, how long the work will take, or whether additional areas will be affected.
Guest Flow Restricted
Forcing all traffic through one entrance creates operational challenges. The single doorway handles entry and exit for restaurant guests, attraction riders, and shoppers simultaneously—functions previously split between two access points.
During peak hours when San Angel Inn fills with diners and Gran Fiesta Tour attracts riders, the bottleneck could cause significant congestion as guests try to enter and exit through the same narrow passage.
The two-week closure, with scaffolding expanding and no communication from Walt Disney World Resort, leaves EPCOT guests unsure how long the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion will remain open with restricted access.
