Stuck on This Disney Attraction? Only the Fire Department Can Help You Evacuate!

Getting stuck any Disney attraction is always an interesting experience, especially if an evacuation is required. In such instances, Disney Cast Members are trained to evacuate all Guests from an attraction safely, but there is one ride in particular where even Disney’s training isn’t quite enough to get riders down…

In the Magic Kingdom, most ride downtimes are fairly straightforward, and if an evacuation is necessary Guests are basically able to either safely walk off from their ride vehicle, or in some cases have their vehicles pushed or pulled by Cast Members until they reach a point in the ride where it is safe to exit. (If you have ever been evacuated from a water attraction, like Pirates of the Caribbean, you may even spot Cast Members standing in the water to help Guests evacuate.)

In the Magic Kingdom, one of the attractions that often has a long wait alongside the likes of Space Mountain or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, includes Peter Pan’s Flight in Fantasyland. While this attraction is a classic Disney dark ride immersing Guests into the story of Peter Pan (1953) it is rather unique from other Fantasyland attractions as Guests board galleons that, as its name suggests, fly over each scene.

With ride vehicles suspended in the air rather than moving along a track at the ground level, the evacuation process for Peter Pan’s Flight also differs from other Disney dark rides. With the exception of very few points in the attraction where Guests’ galleons might be located next to a platform with stairs, the Fire Department is actually needed to help get everyone off when the ride needs to be evacuated.

If an evacuation is required at Peter Pan’s Flight, the Fire Department typically arrives rather quickly (thanks to the Reedy Creek Improvement District). Once inside each show scene, the Fire Department will assist each Guest with exiting the ride vehicle via a ladder (with accommodations made for Guests who cannot climb down a ladder.)

Earlier this year, we shared an incident where Peter Pan’s Flight was indeed evacuated with Guests stuck mid-flight. You can read all the details from Guests’ experiences getting off the attraction with the fire department in this article.

Thankfully evacuations of Peter Pan’s Flight do not happen often, but if you’ve ever wondered…That’s how it’s done! Rides at Walt Disney World and other theme parks can experience downtime for any number of reasons ranging from technical issues to emergency stops if a Guests leaves their ride vehicle, and more. Whatever the case may be, you can rest assured that Disney Cast Members (or maybe the Fire Department) will help you off safely so you can get back to enjoying the rest of your day in the Park.
