Disney Guests Evacuated Dramatically After Being Stuck Mid-Flight

It’s seemingly one of the most popular rides at any Disney theme park, with lines sometimes challenging the new Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction.

Disney’s Peter Pan’s Flight is a rail-suspended dark ride at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland theme parks that is famous for its exceedingly long wait times and charming classic story.

Located in the Fantasyland area of each Park, the ride is based on Walt Disney’s animated movie Peter Pan (1953) version of the classic Peter Pan story by J. M. Barrie.

But with its long lines and amazing Disney theme park history, what happens when you break down high above London? Well, one Disney Guest got the ultimate evacuation experience this week.

We’ve seen a lot of wild evacuation stories and break-down moments happening lately at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme parks.

Disney Guests were recently escorted backstage on Kilimanjaro Safaris in Harambe when a ride vehicle suffered a broken axle, while over in Batuu, the new immersive Rise of the Resistance attraction is continuously breaking down and causing backed up Lightning Lane queues.

And this week, Instagram user @muggleonmainstreet posted a shocking video of their experience when they got stuck on Peter Pan’s Flight high above the streets of London:

According to @muggleonmainstreet, the fire department had to be called to help Guests evacuate from the pirate ship ride vehicle after being stuck for more than 30 minutes.

Interestingly, the famous “show” of Disney was interrupted when the fire department brought in a ladder to help the Guests down from the vehicles. The Instagram user went on to explain, “I don’t remember exactly how long but it was more than 30 minutes. I was like the last one off because my boat was in an awkward place and they had no clue how to get me down.”

Seems like Disney’s Cast Members had never encountered the ride being stuck in that position before! It is intriguing that Disney had no idea how to get the Guest down and had to have the fire department come in. Usually, Disney’s theme parks are streamlined in their approach to health and safety, training, and evacuation procedures.

We’re not sure when the next refurbishment of the ride is expected, but it seems that the Fantasyland ride has been suffering numerous breakdowns recently at Walt Disney World.

The ride has had some updates from the original version of the attraction, with a redesign in 1983. Peter Pan’s Flight is actually one of the few remaining attractions that was operational on Disneyland’s opening day in 1955.
