On March 21, Disney’s Snow White will finally be released in movie theaters. The live-action remake of Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) has been under intense scrutiny for the last four years, ever since the Mouse House cast Rachel Zegler as the eponymous Disney princess.

Controversy reached new heights in 2023 after 2022 remarks resurfaced online and so began a tidal wave of negativity levied at the movie. From the CGI “dwarfs” to the casting of Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen to the quietened premiere events, the first of which saw London replaced with a small gathering in Sergovia, Spain, Disney’s Snow White is one of the most talked about movies in recent memory–but not for a good reason.

It’s clear Disney is expanding on the story of Snow White and introducing characters not included in the original animated movie from the 1930s, while also bringing in more of Snow White’s life with multiple actresses playing the role during the film.

Disney’s Snow White is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Erin Cressida Wilson. It was once thought that Barbie‘s Greta Gerwig had co-written the script alongside Wilson but, as a Writers Guild of America directory confirms, just the latter will receive sole credit for the film. Gerwig along with Jez Butterworth, Steven Levenson, Jeffrey Nathanson, Victoria Strouse, and Chris Weitz have received “Additional Literary Material” credits for their work on the film.

About Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
