Disneyland Resort Guests willing to pay the price to “stroll along a storied street” can now embark on a magical journey down Main Street, U.S.A. to learn its history and visit a very special location previously inaccessible to the general public: Walt Disney’s original Fire Station Apartment.
During the construction of the now Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney built an apartment on the second floor of the Main Street Fire Station, just inside the entrance to the Disney Park. Throughout Disneyland’s years of operation, the light from a lamp placed within the window overlooking the walkway would signal to Cast Members that Disney himself was present at the Happiest Place on Earth.
Following Disney’s untimely death in 1966, Disneyland began a tradition of leaving the light on 24/7 in homage to his memory. They even swapped it out for a Christmas Tree with glowing lights in a charming move during the holiday season at Walt’s first Magic Kingdom.
Part of Disney’s Enchanting Extras Collection, Walt’s Main Street Story Tour is open to all Guests ages three and up for a fee of $160 per person. Details provided on the official Disneyland Resort website describe the guided tour:
