During the construction of the now Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney built an apartment on the second floor of the Main Street Fire Station, just inside the entrance to the Disney Park. Throughout Disneyland’s years of operation, the light from a lamp placed within the window overlooking the walkway would signal to Cast Members that Disney himself was present at the Happiest Place on Earth.

Following Disney’s untimely death in 1966, Disneyland began a tradition of leaving the light on 24/7 in homage to his memory. They even swapped it out for a Christmas Tree with glowing lights in a charming move during the holiday season at Walt’s first Magic Kingdom.
