When dining at Disney, everyone has their Park favorites. Indeed, from DOLE whip to Mickey pretzels to finer fare like Be Our Guest or the special menus at the elusive Club 33, there’s something for everyone and everyone will always have that one item they dream about eating once every visit to the Disney Parks.

Such is the case for the Blue Bayou Restaurant within New Orleans Square at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. The Blue Bayou opened in 1967, and its unique structure means it overlooks the entrance queue and first portion of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. The themed ambiance, simulating a nighttime boat ride out into the Lousiana bayou complete with tranquil crickets and floating fireflies, makes for a dreamy atmosphere for diners.

The Disneyland website describes it as a “must-visit destination for Guests”:

Embark on a culinary adventure with Louisiana-inspired cuisine as you watch Pirates of the Caribbean boats glide past… Spot Guests embarking on a Pirates of the Caribbean adventure, as you enjoy an authentic New Orleans-inspired lunch or dinner. It’s a truly unique setting where the bayou is, literally, by you!

In fact, many of the Guests who visit the Blue Bayou each year do so in order to enjoy two specific items: the popular Monte Cristo sandwich and the Restaurant’s famous Chicken Jambalaya. Unfortunately, after examining the new menu, many Guests have noticed that Blue Bayou no longer offers both items, along with several other items which Disney has replaced or removed.

Now, there appear to only be three entrees offered on the dinner menu: Prime Rib, Sustainable Market Fish, or Creole Roasted Chicken, in addition to a few plant-based options. However, Blue Bayou still offers a similar Chicken Gumbo for a Starter, and while the layered cake is missing, we believe it’s just been renamed to “Chocolate Hazelnut Cake.”

Still, Guests have taken to social media to voice their upset at the Park’s changes to the Blue Bayou menu. Online, some Guests called the new menu “uninspired” or said their children would be “heartbroken” to hear their favorite items were no longer available at Disneyland. And on Twitter, one user recently posted that the Monte Cristo sandwich was the “best meal in Disneyland by far.”

Luckily, Cafe Orleans does seem to still offer a Monte Cristo on their menu, if Guests are willing to sacrifice the special sneak peek at Pirates and the bayou to get it. Pricing for the Blue Bayou Restaurant ranges from $35 to $59.99 per Adult Guest.
