For millions of witches and wizards around the globe, making the journey to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter in Leavesden, UK, is a major bucket-list experience.
The world-renowned attraction offers fans an unparalleled look behind the magic, letting guests stroll down Diagon Alley, step into the Great Hall, and marvel at the breathtaking scale model of Hogwarts Castle.

Because the studio tour remains an absolute juggernaut for UK tourism, the surrounding Leavesden area has naturally transformed into a hotspot for themed accommodations.
After all, if you’re spending the afternoon exploring the Wizarding World, why wouldn’t you want to wrap up your evening sleeping under a Gryffindor crest?
Unfortunately, however, one local property owner just found out that Muggle authorities have a strict limit when it comes to late-night magical high jinks.

Local Council Casts a Silencing Charm on Harry Potter Experience
According to a report from the Watford Observer, local officials have blocked attempts to legitimize the business through retrospective planning permission.
Known as The Lumos House, the property is located on the corner of High Road and Chapel Close in Leavesden—perfectly positioned just a seven-minute journey from the studio tour gates.

The property had been operating as a holiday let without planning permission since November 2025. However, when the owner filed a retrospective planning application in March to legitimize the business, nearby residents immediately raised alarms.
Neighbors complained that the house—which crammed seven beds into a traditional four-bedroom layout to accommodate up to eight guests at a time—frequently resulted in disruptive, party-style noise that completely shattered the quiet of the residential street.
“It would harm the living conditions of the occupants of neighboring properties with regard to noise and disturbance.” — the Watford Borough Council Decision Notice.
A quick glance at the property’s 4.77-star Airbnb listing shows a house saturated in Harry Potter decor. The interior features official movie posters, themed wallpaper, custom table coverings, and even a tongue-in-cheek sign above the toilet pointing the way to the Ministry of Magic.
The applicant argued that the property was managed professionally and strictly supported the vital film tourism infrastructure of Leavesden. They even highlighted a rental agreement that explicitly banned guests from making excessive noise between 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. However, the council ultimately dismissed the curfew rule as seemingly unenforceable.
Their report, which recommends refusal, added that “it is reasonable to suppose” the property “would be conducive to a party-style use as described by nearby residents”.

To make matters worse for the operators, the council noted that the building is locally listed and holds significant historical interest for the community.
Officers determined that turning a classic family home into a high-turnover tourist hub failed to protect local housing stock and created an inappropriate disturbance.
While the council’s refusal means the lights have gone out at The Lumos House for now, the decision notice did leave the door open for the owners to submit an amended proposal down the line.

Official Harry Potter Experiences Beyond the UK
Of course, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter itself remains open to all guests.
