A new change has quietly taken shape at one of Walt Disney World Resort’s most iconic attractions. Following months of guest complaints, The Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom Park has received an official update to its extended standby queue—one that promises a more comfortable wait for visitors braving Central Florida’s unpredictable weather.

Complaints Lead to Change

For years, Magic Kingdom Park guests have voiced frustrations about the extended standby line for The Haunted Mansion, which often stretches far beyond the ride’s shaded queue area and into the exposed walkways of Liberty Square. During peak times—especially in the heat of summer or the height of holiday crowds—parkgoers could spend long stretches under the glaring sun or caught in sudden downpours.

Now, it appears that Walt Disney World Resort has listened. According to WDWNT, The Haunted Mansion’s extended queue has officially been relocated to a new, covered area that once served as the docking space for the Liberty Square Riverboat.

The Liberty Belle Area Gets New Life

The Liberty Square Riverboat and its surrounding Rivers of America area officially closed in July 2025, marking the end of an era for the beloved Liberty Belle vessel. Shortly after the closure, Disney installed rolling planters to block the old entrance and boarding dock. Those planters have now been removed, revealing an entirely new, extended queue area for The Haunted Mansion.

Guests visiting Magic Kingdom Park this week will find the new queue setup complete with ropes, stanchions, and directional signs guiding them through the newly repurposed pavilion. The covered space provides guests with a welcome respite from the sun and rain.

More Than Just a Queue Update

The relocation of the queue is part of a larger transformation taking place throughout this section of Magic Kingdom Park. The Liberty Square Riverboat, the Rivers of America, and Tom Sawyer Island all closed earlier this year to make way for Piston Peak National Park, a brand-new expansion inspired by Cars (2006).

Construction walls currently surround the area as Walt Disney Imagineers reshape the former waterway into an all-new Frontierland space featuring at least two attractions. While Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t shared an official opening timeline, fans can expect a complete reimagining of this part of the park in the coming years.

Walt Disney World Resort has yet to issue a formal press statement about the change, which isn’t unusual for minor updates like this one. However, for guests planning a visit this holiday season, the experience of waiting to enter The Haunted Mansion will now be far more comfortable—and far less haunted by Florida’s summer sun.
