One Disney park has been forced to shutter all of its outdoor attractions.

Located on Lantau Island, Hong Kong Disneyland first opened in 2005. It blends classic Disney attractions with regional touches and features themed lands like Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and its newest land, World of Frozen. The resort is significantly smaller than the likes of Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Paris, with just one park and three hotels, but it still carries a lot of the same charm found at Walt’s original theme park in Anaheim.

Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Goofy, dance in front of a castle with water fountains spraying around them. Several other costumed characters are also performing on stage amidst a vibrant, festive atmosphere.

But the road hasn’t been totally smooth for Hong Kong Disneyland. The park faced years of financial challenges due to low attendance, competition from Shanghai Disneyland, and pandemic-related closures. Major expansions and a post-COVID tourism rebound have, fortunately, helped turn things around. In 2024, the park recorded its highest-ever attendance and returned to profit for the first time in nine years, just in time for its 20th-anniversary celebration, The Most Magical Party of All, this year.

Hong Kong Disneyland Faces Unexpected Mass Closures

While the park is growing in popularity, Hong Kong Disneyland has been forced to block guests from a significant portion of its rides today.

Hong Kong officials issued a T3 typhoon warning on June 14. The Observatory raised its alert at 12.20 p.m, HKT today as Severe Tropical Storm Wutip approached the city. It is expected to come within 300km to the northwest of Hong Kong early tomorrow morning.

Hong Kong Disneyland has issued the following statement on its website:

Under Strong Wind Signal No. 3, the park will open with limited operations, while all outdoor attractions will be suspended.
For the latest show times and attraction availability, please check our official mobile app or approach our cast members.

The warning is set to last through noon on Sunday, meaning guests can expect outdoor attractions to remain closed at Hong Kong Disneyland tomorrow morning, too. That means guests can expect at least the following attractions to be off limits:

  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant
  • Orbitron
  • Jungle River Cruise
  • Tarzan’s Treehouse
  • RC Racer
  • Slinky Dog Spin
  • Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars
  • Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs

While the Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre remains open, rental services of pedal boats and surrey bikes may be suspended.

Wutip is the first typhoon to hit Hong Kong in 2025, with the last – Super Typhoon Man-yi –  hitting in November 2024. Hong Kong Disneyland was forced to shutter its outdoor attractions on multiple occasions in 2024.

The good news, however, is that the park is also home to a long list of exciting indoor rides. Mystic Manor, Frozen Ever After, the Iron Man Experience, Hyperspace Mountain, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle are just some of the alternative attractions to keep guests entertained while Hong Kong Disneyland rides out Wutip.
