The Disneyland Monorail has been a staple of Southern California’s Disney Theme Parks since its opening in 1959. There have been several different versions over the years, and the story behind the iconic attraction is incredibly interesting!
Walt Disney discovered the transportation system on a trip to Germany with his family. He noticed a unique train passing overhead as they drove through the countryside.
In a moment of serendipity, the family was traveling on a road that ran through the grounds of Alweg Research Corporation. The company ended up giving Walt design plans to build his own Monorail.
The Monorail has two stations at Disneyland Resort. Guests can hop onboard at the Tomorrowland station above Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage or the Downtown Disney District station outside Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.
The train runs about every 10 minutes. Since the pandemic, the Monorail has not offered its usual evening service, much to the disappointment of Disney fans. The trip is beautiful and relaxing, and some would say the nighttime service provides the most enjoyable experience.
With the Parks and the city of Anaheim all lit up, the excursion sparkles with enchanting vibes. After Disneyland’s year-long pandemic closure, the Monorail opened to Guests with reduced operating hours.
As of late, the attraction has been closing before sunset at Disneyland Resort. But, now, for the first time since its pandemic closure, ocregister.com reports that the Monorail has reopened for evening experiences!
Guests can check the My Disney Experience App or Disneyland’s official website for daily operating hours, but currently, the attraction is open between 8 a.m. and either 11 p.m. or 12 a.m.
With incredible views of the Park, a trip onboard this nostalgic attraction is not to be missed on a visit to Disneyland Resort. So, enjoy a blast from Disney’s past onboard this 2.5-mile, 13-minute round-trip journey around the Happiest Place on Earth!
