The promise of Jurassic Park has always been equal parts wonder and terror. However, Saber Interactive’s upcoming game “Jurassic Park: Survival” appears to be leaning hard into the latter, as a new behind-the-scenes video confirms players won’t just escape dinosaurs — they’ll be devoured by them.

The footage features Payal Mistry, who has been revealed as the performer behind protagonist Dr. Maya Joshi. During the video, we see Joshi experience a grim fate: being seized and eaten by the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The clip leaves little doubt that the developers are determined to make encounters with dinosaurs as deadly as they are cinematic.

“Jurassic Park: Survival” Will Be Very Immersive

Set 24 hours after the events of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film, “Jurassic Park: Survival” places players in the shoes of the InGen scientist on a faithfully realized Isla Nublar. Environments like the iconic Visitor Center will return, but players will also explore unfinished and never-before-seen parts of the island. But what unites them all is the constant threat of AI-driven dinosaurs roaming free, their presence as unpredictable as they are lethal (and we do mean lethal).

Now, with the confirmation of full-fledged death sequences, it’s clear that every dinosaur encounter will carry “real” consequences — at least by gaming standards. Despite the name of the game, survival won’t be guaranteed — and when it fails, players will be treated to chillingly cinematic reminders of why Isla Nublar was abandoned in the first place.

This Time, You’ll Experience the Wonder and Terror

Mistry praises her character, Dr. Joshi, as adventurous and unafraid to push limits. “The actual journey, the arc of Maya, it’s incredible,” she says. “She was personally recruited by Dr. Henry Wu to become an InGen scientist, to work at the park. [At] the start of Maya’s journey, she’s unable to escape Isla Nublar.”

“I really relate to Maya in lots of different ways. She’s incredibly passionate and adventurous. I think she takes risks, she steps outside of her comfort zone,” she adds. “I feel like I’m learning a lot about myself, to be honest. She’s very inspiring, and she has a lot of admirable traits. I think I’m standing on the shoulders of some of the coolest female characters in cinema history. It’s incredible.”

Joshi sounds like a natural fit for Isla Nublar and a solid addition to the original 1993 character lineup. But stepping too close to the wrong enclosure or taking one risk too many will end with players reliving the nightmare that defined the original film.

Far from being a simple adventure title, “Jurassic Park: Survival” is shaping up to be an experience where death is part of the design — and the dinosaurs always get the last word. Or roar.
