Now that Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) is out in theaters, fans are being forced to reckon with a puzzling question: what happened to the original Jurassic Park (1993) Tyrannosaurus Rex (affectionately nicknamed Rexy by fans) and Blue, the trained and highly intelligent velociraptor that was raised by animal behaviorist Owen Grady (Chris Pratt)?
The film introduces yet another global crisis. But this time, the dinosaurs aren’t flourishing around the world like we saw in the last film, Jurassic World Dominion (2022) — it’s the opposite. They’re dying off due to environmental collapse, and our favorite dinosaurs from the Jurassic World trilogy have seemingly vanished without a trace.
No farewell and no explanation.
But does that signal the end for these icons? Or could they return in a future installment?
Rebirth is so focused on forging a new path—mutants, Île Saint‑Hubert, a new cast (with Scarlett Johansson as the lead)—it appears to deliberately forgets its roots. But if there’s a sequel, there’s a chance Rexy and Blue might return. Maybe they fled to a safe haven?
Or maybe, as they’re so durable, they’re among the lucky few dinosaurs that aren’t suffocating to death like that poor sauropod does on the roadside in the latest film.
Either way, an explanation requires a sequel. The trouble is that Rebirth makes no promises. Despite being the start of a “new Jurassic era,” and while it’s likely set to pass the $1 billion mark like its predecessors, it doesn’t give any clue as to where it wants to go next. No mid-credits or post-credits tease, and not even a hint about whether it even wants to return.
It also marches ahead with major retconning like it doesn’t owe a thing to continuity. So for now, Rexy and Blue remain in limbo—maybe gone forever.
