‘Superman’ (2025) Steals the Spotlight From ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ as It Hits Theaters

As Jurassic World Rebirth hits theaters today (July 2), its marketing feels oddly restrained for a franchise that has, to date, grossed over $6 billion in theaters alone. Red carpet premieres in London and a few other cities make up the bulk of the promotion, which is a far cry from what we’ve seen before and nothing like what Superman (2025) is currently doing.

Yesterday, July 1, hovering 1,000 feet above London’s skyline inside the spire of The Shard, a massive 11-foot Superman statue, 3D-modeled after David Corenswet’s take on the Man of Steel, was suspended for a single day. The fiberglass, eco-resin giant was visible for 40 miles, encircled on occasion by two helicopters branded ingeniously with the Daily Planet logo.

The film’s director James Gunn, also DC Studios’ co-Chairman and co-CEO alongside Peter Safran, shared a tweet featuring photos of the impressive display:

London! Look up over The Shard! #Superman is in theaters July 11.

The stunt literally had London looking up, exactly as the movie’s tagline demands.

This was no small feat, though. According to The Shard’s official website, it was “the highest-ever display of a public sculpture” in the U.K. It’s a bold, eye-catching move that goes beyond typical fanfare. And a sharp contrast to the quieter promotional efforts behind Jurassic World Rebirth, which has stuck mostly to premieres, trailers, and toys.

Remember the marketing blitz for Jurassic World back in 2015? Realistic dinosaur models actually invaded Waterloo Station in London. Even the sequels Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022) had their own fair share of clever marketing, with the former putting a giant T-Rex model on the River Thames and the latter unleashing short films and viral websites in the run up to its release.

Rebirth could have easily learned a thing or two, but marketing has been lackluster.

Superman (2025), however, clearly wants to soar at the box office— and it’s starting with a spectacle worthy of its legacy. The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

It’s the first chapter in DC’s rebooted universe and a high-profile attempt to redefine the superhero icon for a new generation.

Jurassic World Rebirth might now finally be out in theaters, but Superman’s stunt reminds us which franchise is playing the long game — with flair, boldness, and the kind of marketing muscle that actually gets people talking.
