‘Superman’ (2025) Has Already Beaten ‘Fantastic Four’ in One Major Way

DC is starting over, again. But this time, it might actually work.

James Gunn’s Superman (2025) is more than just another reboot—it’s the first real test of whether DC can finally build a consistent, successful cinematic universe following the disastrous DC Extended Universe. And with a July 11 release date, the countdown is on.

David Corenswet, known for his role in Twisters (2024), suits up as the new Man of Steel AKA Clark Kent/Superman. Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) plays Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult (Nosferatu) brings a new version of Lex Luthor to life.

Directed by Gunn himself (the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy), the film kicks off DC Studios’ new universe, following years of scattered hits and disappointing box office returns.

The pressure is high. DC’s last chapter ended on a weak note—films such as The Flash (2023), Blue Beetle (2023), and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023) struggled to find their footing with audiences. Meanwhile, Marvel has also continued to pump out movies (and Disney+ shows) that have failed to recapture the magic of Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Gunn’s version of Superman is set to reset the tone for everything that follows, including Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026) and Batman: The Brave and the Bold (TBA).

But despite the DCEU’s shortcomings, there’s reason to be hopeful for the new DCU. The second trailer dropped this week and quickly racked up millions of views. And while comparisons to Christopher Reeve’s iconic Superman are inevitable, this version seems determined to stand on its own. Watch the brand-new trailer for Superman (2025) below:

What’s impressive about the new trailer besides the spectacle is that DC’s upload has racked up almost 22M alone in just a few days, while the official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps—on the official Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel—has only reached 19M a month since it dropped. The initial trailer for Superman (2025) has reached 58M in the past four months, while the first teaser for The Fantastic Four stands at 30M after three months.

Of course, none of this takes into account other uploads. Not only that, but trailer views are hardly a reliable indicator of eventual box office ticket sales.

Superman (2025) comes with a clean slate. No tangled timelines, no leftover plot threads—it’s a chance for DC to reintroduce its biggest hero to a new generation. If this film soars, it could finally give the studio the kind of momentum Marvel had in its early years.

DC has tried reboots before, but Superman (2025) might be the one that sticks. After a decade of false starts, this is DC’s best shot at getting it right. And if the early buzz is anything to go by, they just might pull it off.
