Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008–2020) remains one of the most beloved entries in the entire franchise. But although there are many fans who would prefer to keep the animated series preserved, there are plenty who have been clamoring for a live-action version for several years.

The second season of Ahsoka seems set to fill that space to some extent, as it sees the return of both Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and Ariana Greenblatt as a young Ahsoka Tano.

Ahsoka Season 2 Will Revisit The Clone Wars

As revealed in the first official trailer that debuted at this year’s D23, just like the first season, Ahsoka Season 2 will feature more flashbacks of the Clone Wars era.

But this time, it will also revisit a major character arc from the animated series, with Anakin (Christensen) asking Ahsoka, “Are you a Jedi or not?”, recalling the Clone Wars storyline in which Ahsoka was falsely accused of a crime before ultimately walking away from the Jedi Order.

Unlike The Clone Wars, Ahsoka, which stars Rosario Dawson as the older version of the character, takes place during the same era as The Mandalorian (2019–2023), The Book of Boba Fett (2021), and The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026), a few years after the events of the original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi (1983).

Hayden Christensen Wants a Live-Action Clone Wars

Will Lucasfilm ever give us a full live-action version of The Clone Wars?

During a recent appearance on the Hey Jonas! podcast (via Forbes), Hayden Christensen was asked about the idea of returning in another live-action project such as Clone Wars. He said that he would love to work with his Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005) co-stars Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Samuel L. Jackson again (all three first appeared in 1999’s The Phantom Menace), adding that he wants to “get the band back together.”

“I know that Ewan McGregor would love to do more with it,” he said. “I’ve heard Natalie [Portman] would love to come back. Sam[uel] Jackson. So you could get the band back together.”

Christensen isn’t wrong about his prequel trilogy co-stars. Ewan McGregor has been very vocal recently about his desires to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, despite there currently being no plans for a second season of the Disney+ series of the same name, for which he reprised his role after 17 years. He also pitched an idea to Variety about how Obi-Wan could be trying to track down Yoda.

Similarly, Samuel L. Jackson has talked numerous times over the years about how his character Mace Windu could still be alive despite being killed by Anakin and Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) in Revenge of the Sith.

And in 2025, Natalie Portman told Entertainment Tonight that she’s “open to everything” where a possible return as Padmé Amidala is concerned.

With all these actors on board — plus Ariana Greenblatt as a Clone Wars-era Ahsoka — we might see a live-action Clone Wars.

Obviously, a live-action Clone Wars should take place during the events of the animated series, perhaps untold storylines with these characters. Undoubtedly, there’s still a lot of “empty space” for Lucasfilm to play around with (which is essentially what Star Wars has become anyway).

The biggest problem is that it’s been more than 20 years since Revenge of the Sith, meaning all the actors would all need to be de-aged for a live-action Clone Wars series.

Of course, Lucasfilm is no stranger to de-aging (Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian Season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett, and Christensen himself in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka), so it would probably need to be a limited series at best.

It’s worth noting that none of these actors voiced their respective characters in the animated Clone Wars series, though. Ahsoka was voiced by Ashley Eckstein, Anakin was voiced by Matt Lanter, Mace Windu was voiced by Terence C. Carson, Obi-Wan was voiced by James Arnold Taylor, and Padmé was voiced by Catherine Taber.

Ahsoka Is Already a Live-Action Clone Wars

There are no plans for a live-action Clone Wars series, and Ahsoka Season 2 may be the closest we’ll ever get — at least for now.

And Ahsoka already has a full cast. It stars Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Ariana Greenblatt (young Ahsoka), Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), and Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno).

Baylan Skoll is now played by Rory McCann, following the death of actor Ray Stevenson in 2023.

Ahsoka Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on January 20, 2027, and consists of eight episodes.
