Ever since Disney officially confirmed the massive “Beyond Big Thunder” expansion at Magic Kingdom—bringing both Villains Land and Piston Peak National Park to life—the rumor mill has been running hot. Among the most viral theories were those surrounding the iconic Haunted Mansion: would the classic attraction be getting a themed bar, and would Imagineers connect it directly into Villains Land?
Thanks to a newly revealed physical scale model displayed at the 2026 D23 Expo, we finally have definitive answers. Unfortunately for fans hoping for ghost cocktails or a villainous crossover, the model officially busts both rumors. Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion will not feature a bar, nor will it share a physical connection with Villains Land.
From Bar to Restroom: The Mystery Building Revealed
Speculation about a Haunted Mansion bar first took off in early 2026 when public permits revealed a 5,800-square-foot mystery structure planned directly adjacent to the attraction. Given the wild popularity of the Haunted Mansion Parlor on the Disney Cruise Line and the successful opening of the Beak & Barrel lounge in Adventureland, fans logically assumed Disney was bringing a spectral lounge to Liberty Square.
However, Imagineering’s detailed scale model of Piston Peak National Park—which included renderings of the surrounding Liberty Square buildings for geographic context—sets the record straight. Zooming in on that 5,800-square-foot structure, the physical model clearly labels its true purpose: restrooms.
While additional restrooms are a much-needed practical addition to handle the massive crowd surge expected during the expansion, they certainly dash the hopes of guests looking to order a themed beverage with the Ghost Host.
Keeping Liberty Square Distinct from Villains Land
The scale model also puts an end to the theory that the Haunted Mansion would physically integrate with Villains Land. Because both areas share a backstage border and lean heavily into dark, spooky aesthetics, fans speculated that Imagineers might build a dedicated walkway between them—or even flip the Haunted Mansion’s main entrance to lead straight into the villainous realm.
The D23 model shows no such connection. There is no gateway, dedicated path, or shared entryway linking the two locations. In fact, the new restroom building acts as a physical buffer, visually and functionally separating the Haunted Mansion from the entrance walkway leading into Villains Land. The classic dark ride will remain completely self-contained within Liberty Square.
A New Wooded Overflow Queue
Though the model disproved the bar-and-crossover rumors, it did reveal one small infrastructure update for the classic ride: a new wooded overflow queue situated alongside the Haunted Mansion. Much like the rest of the ride’s footprint, this queue remains entirely separate from the main expansion thoroughfares and does not connect to Villains Land.
Final Thoughts
While it may be disappointing that a Haunted Mansion lounge isn’t in the works, the new models provide welcome clarity on how Magic Kingdom’s footprint is evolving. The 999 Happy Haunts will stay happily isolated in Liberty Square while Disney Villains take over next door.
