Disney Parks fans are outraged after a TikTok video emerged showing a teenager attacking Minnie Mouse as his family appears to laugh and film the interaction. Many social media users questioned why the boy’s parents didn’t step in to protect the Disney character performer.

There are two main types of character performers at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and the international Disney parks. “Face” character performers must visually match their onscreen counterparts and verbally communicate with guests (think Peter Pan or Cinderella).

“Fur” entertainment performers, who portray characters like Mickey Mouse and Pluto, must only fit in their character’s height range. They can only communicate with guests and their attendants through body language.

Both types of character performers learn discreet emergency signals they can use to communicate urgent needs to their attendants. However, “fur” characters are unable to verbally correct guests when their behavior is wrong, making it harder to protect themselves from abuse and harassment.

Combined with their heavy costume pieces, “fur” character performers’ inability to communicate verbally puts them at a high risk of injury.

Considering these job hazards, Disney Parks fans were outraged last month when a teenage boy reportedly attacked Minnie Mouse as his family laughed. @earloveyoulove shared this video of the incident on TikTok:

In the video, Minnie Mouse walks around Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland Park. She turns around after interacting with a family, including a young teenage boy. When the Disney character starts walking away, the boy pushes the back of her head.

Minnie Mouse snaps around and stands firmly in place, displaying distressed body language. Instead of reprimanding the boy, multiple family members laugh and pull out their phones to film the interaction. Eventually, Minnie Mouse’s character attendant approaches and moves the family away.

Unsurprisingly, Disney Parks fans were outraged. One wrong touch can cause a Disney character’s costume to move unnaturally and injure the performer inside.

“These are the people who ruined the experience for others, who just want to have a great time,” @eugenedarden commented.

“This whole situation is so uncomfortable,” said @matty_tater. “The guy in the yellow and blue trying to wrap his arms around Minnie, the kid touching the back of her head, the woman in white cutting her off—just bad vibes.”

Many blamed the boy’s parents.

“Where are his parents?” @queennmyhouse asked.

“I hope they got kicked out,” @pictureofplay replied. “Shame on those parents.”

Others said Minnie Mouse’s character attendant should’ve been paying better attention to the interaction.

“The Disney escort should be clear and loud,” @disandoval0 wrote.

“Where is her person?” @mrs.degille asked. “Characters don’t walk around alone because of things like this.”

Disney Park guests should always report inappropriate behavior to the nearest cast member. One Disney Parks fan, @jennylkb0sk, shared their story about standing up for Mickey Mouse:

“They need to respect them they are human like us and is not nice to do that I witnessed some child bullying Mickey and I got a person to help him”

Whether Minnie Mouse was injured during this interaction remains unclear. Disneyland Resort rarely issues public statements on incidents like this one.
