I recently sailed on the Disney Fantasy for Star Wars Day at Sea. If you had sailed before COVID, you would see characters all around and so many different photo opportunities were available. Lines would sometimes be long, and I thought it’d be interesting to see how character opportunities changed since sailing has resumed.
If you were hoping to still see your favorite characters all around the ship, you will not be disappointed. Although you cannot be up close and hug them anymore, there are still many different opportunities available.
There are times listed on the Disney Cruise Line App for when your favorite characters will be and where. This can guarantee you get to see Mickey and Minnie or whoever you are most excited to meet.
There are also characters randomly walking around the ship. They love to interact with you and sometimes even follow you around for a bit. At one point, we saw Goofy helping a family solve a case for the Midship Detective Agency.
Up on the deck, you can see some of your favorites wandering around, and if you are outdoors, it’s your opportunity to take photos with characters without your mask on. Indoors you are still required to wear masks, even for photos.
There are still some deck parties happening even with the pandemic. Since it is outdoors, masks are not required, but Guests are spaced apart and socially distanced. You can see your favorite characters up on stage dancing to some of the top hits. This is a great way to see many of your favorites all in one place.
At different times characters will be wearing different outfits as well. One night was a formal night where you see Mickey and Minnie in their most fancy attire. On days that it is more casual, you can see them in their beach clothes, ready to hit Castaway Cay.
If you’re anything like me, I was trying to grab a photo with them every opportunity I had. It was surprising that there would be no wait very often, and sometimes the characters would even be standing there by themselves without anyone around to get a photo. It was so fun to see these characters again and sail with them.
