Daniel Craig is officially out as James Bond, and now, a new 007 agent has arrived—though not quite in the way most fans expected.

The first official trailer for “007 First Light” has been released, marking the debut of a new James Bond in an entirely new format. It’s not a film, though—the Bond reboot is a video game—an action-adventure origin story developed by IO Interactive (who will also publish).

Produced under license from Amazon MGM Studios, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and EON Productions, it’s the franchise’s first reboot since Craig’s exit in No Time to Die (2021).

The actor portraying Bond in “007 First Light” hasn’t been named yet, but many fans are already convinced it’s Patrick Gibson—the Irish star who played young Dexter Morgan in last year’s Paramount+ series Dexter: Original Sin.

“007 First Light” is described as a James Bond origin story, similar to Casino Royale (2006), which first saw Daniel Craig don the iconic tux. It will also be the first original 007 console title in over a decade. The last attempt, “007 Legends” (2012), was widely panned, however, “GoldenEye” (1997) remains a touchstone, so expectations are understandably high.

While speculation around the next film Bond continues—with names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Idris Elba still floating—this new entry marks the first official passing of the torch, at least in terms of character design and direction.

And with EON Productions stepping back and Amazon MGM now steering the franchise, “007 First Light” might offer a preview of where Bond is headed.

“007 First Light” is scheduled to be released for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S in 2026.
