Nearly two decades after its debut, Phineas and Ferb is back, but not without some unexpected changes. The inventive stepbrothers who captured the hearts of millions with their summer adventures are returning in what creator Dan Povenmire calls Season 5, now streaming on Disney+. Yet alongside the excitement, fans have noticed a shift in some familiar voices.

The original series, which launched in 2007, became famous for its clever humor and catchy musical numbers. It followed Phineas Flynn and his stepbrother Ferb Fletcher as they built incredible inventions, often frustrating Phineas’s sister Candace and her attempts to “bust” them. Now, with the revival underway, longtime viewers are adjusting to a few surprising new voices in the cast.

The Voice Behind Jeremy Johnson Changes

One of the most notable changes in the revival involves the character Jeremy Johnson, Candace’s often-distracting love interest. Fans first met Jeremy as the charming, laid-back boy who unwittingly complicates Candace’s schemes. His voice, once provided by Mitchel Musso, is now performed by a new actor.

Mitchel Musso, best known for his role as Oliver on Hannah Montana, had voiced Jeremy in the original series and the 2020 movie Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe. But the reboot brings in a fresh voice for Jeremy, marking a significant recast. Musso’s departure from the role has raised questions since Disney has not publicly addressed the reasons behind the change.

Musso’s career with Disney has been rocky. In 2011, he was arrested for DUI, an incident that led to his character being written out of two other Disney Channel shows: Pair of Kings and PrankStars. At the time, he acknowledged his mistakes, saying, “In becoming an adult, I have learned firsthand that stepping up and taking responsibility is the best way to move forward.” He also expressed gratitude to his family and fans for their support.

Despite these setbacks, Musso stayed connected to Disney. He voiced characters in Milo Murphy’s Law, which shares a universe with Phineas and Ferb, and reprised Jeremy in the 2011 film Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension and the 2020 movie. However, in August 2023, Musso faced another incident involving public intoxication and theft, though charges were dismissed later that year.

A New Voice for a New Season

The reboot of Phineas and Ferb arrives with hopes of capturing both longtime fans and a new generation. Season 5 offers fresh adventures and retains the show’s trademark wit, but changes in the voice cast serve as a reminder that time moves on for both characters and actors alike.

With David Errigo Jr. stepping in for Ferb and the replacement of Jeremy’s voice, the series takes a different shape while holding onto its roots. Fans may miss the familiar voices but can still enjoy the inventive spirit that made the show a classic.
