Tragic Scene Outside Disneyland: Man Found Dead Directly Under Resort Sign on Katella Avenue
A routine weekend visit to the Happiest Place on Earth took a somber turn Sunday afternoon when emergency responders discovered a deceased man lying steps from one of the resort’s primary street markers.

Units from the Anaheim Police Department and Anaheim Fire and Rescue converged on the 800 block of West Katella Avenue, discovering an unresponsive 65-year-old male on the sidewalk directly beneath the large, arched blue Disneyland Resort entry sign. While the presence of flashing sirens, yellow caution tape, and detoured pedestrian paths quickly caught the attention of visiting families, police confirmed that investigators see no evidence of foul play.
911 Call Prompts Emergency Response on Katella
The incident unfolded around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026. Anaheim Police Sgt. Eric Anderson reported that emergency dispatch received an alert regarding a person down on the sidewalk along the southern boundary of the resort property, south of Katella Avenue.

Paramedics with Anaheim Fire and Rescue arrived on scene shortly after the call. Despite emergency life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased individual was known to local police as a member of the area’s unhoused community. Initial evaluations by responding officers and investigators indicate that the man appeared to have died of natural causes, with no immediate indications of trauma, physical violence, or suspicious circumstances.
The individual’s identity was withheld pending formal confirmation and family notifications by the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.
High-Profile Landmark Shuttered for Investigation
The discovery occurred in a high-visibility pedestrian corridor. The man was found resting directly under the towering blue Disneyland Resort gateway sign on the 800 block of West Katella Avenue.

Because Katella Avenue sits across from the Anaheim Convention Center and borders Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and the Pixar Place Hotel, this sidewalk is heavily used by parkgoers walking from off-property hotels to the Main Entrance Esplanade.
To preserve the scene and allow coroner personnel to perform their duties with dignity, police cordoned off a stretch of the public walkway, directing pedestrians around the closed zone for several hours. Officials noted that it was not immediately clear whether the precise spot where the man died fell on Disney property or within the public municipal easement.
Theme Parks Run Normally as Coroner Takes Over
Despite early speculation across social media platforms like X, the emergency remained strictly confined to the perimeter sidewalk. Operations inside Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure continued on standard schedules, with no interruptions to queues, dining, or guest entertainment.
Sunday’s response marks the second perimeter disruption near the resort this month, following an early-October security sweep along Harbor Boulevard that temporarily diverted foot traffic on the pedestrian Esplanade before an unattended bag was cleared.
The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner will determine an official cause of death following a post-mortem review, though Anaheim police reiterated that no foul play is suspected and the scene has been cleared.
