After Donald Trump drained the National Mall’s reflecting pool in Washington, D.C., it turns out Walt Disney World Resort had the same idea.

Coins Cleared, Repainting Begins

The reflection pool near the Imagination! Pavilion and the Land Pavilion at EPCOT have been drained since early June, and the refurbishment work is now in full swing. On June 23, WDWNT reported that construction crews have repainted approximately half of the pool basin, replacing the faded, algae-stained surface with a fresh dark beige finish.

Before the repainting began, Disney cast members spent time this week clearing out the pool entirely. The thousands of coins guests had tossed into the water over the years were collected and removed, and the rocks lining the basin were repositioned into piles to clear the way for crews. Whether a second coat of paint is planned before the rocks are replaced and the pool is refilled hasn’t been confirmed by Walt Disney World Resort.

The Central Florida vacation destination hasn’t issued any public statement about the project. Routine refurbishments that don’t directly impact attractions, restaurants, or merchandise locations rarely generate official commentary from Disney.

A Worthy Destination for Those Coins

Guests who have ever made a wish by tossing change into the EPCOT reflection pool can feel good about where that money is headed. Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort collect coins from wishing wells, ponds, attraction water features, and reflection pools throughout the Disney parks and direct the proceeds to children’s charities. In Central Florida, those donations typically benefit Make-A-Wish and Give Kids The World Village. The total amount collected from this particular refurbishment hasn’t been disclosed.

Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t addressed whether other EPCOT reflection pools and waterways will receive similar treatment.
