Yesterday, we covered a heat advisory with a heat index reaching 110 degrees across the Orlando area, including Disney World and other theme parks.

Today it is worse.

That is the part worth sitting with before anything else. This is not a single bad afternoon that passes and gets forgotten. It is a pattern that has been building all week, and the numbers are climbing rather than leveling off. Each day this week has been slightly more dangerous than the last, and today sets a new record.

For anyone planning to be outside in Central Florida today, whether that is Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, or just running errands, this is a day to take seriously rather than push through.

East Central Florida is under a Heat Advisory for most of Wednesday, with a heat index up to 112 degrees.

Today’s Heat Advisory Details

The Heat Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

It includes Orange and Osceola counties, where both Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort are located.

High temperatures will be in the mid 90s. The heat index will range from 108 to 112 degrees, higher than yesterday.

Note the earlier start time, too. Yesterday’s advisory began at 11 a.m. Today it kicks in at 10 a.m., meaning the dangerous window is longer.

The Forecast Got Worse for the Rest of the Week

This detail changes how you should plan the next several days.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has shared an updated forecast, and Greater Orlando is now forecast to have “extreme” HeatRisk temperatures between 95 and 96 degrees through Sunday.

Daytona Beach and Leesburg will also see “major” and “extreme” temperatures. The rest of East Central Florida will mostly land in the “moderate” range.

That “extreme” classification is not a casual label. The National Weather Service describes it as “Rare and/or long-duration extreme heat with no overnight relief affecting anyone without cooling/hydration as well as health systems, industries, and infrastructure.”

Read that phrase again: no overnight relief. That means the body does not get its usual recovery window between days, which is exactly how multi-day heat events become dangerous even for healthy people.

Yesterday’s forecast had this week trending moderate to major. Today it is extreme through Sunday.

What the National Weather Service Recommends

The guidance is straightforward, and it works.

  • Hydrate frequently
  • Wear lightweight clothing
  • Take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade
  • Shift outdoor activities to later in the evening

To that list, add electrolytes. During a multi-day stretch of extreme heat, water alone is not always enough, especially if you are sweating heavily for hours. Electrolyte packets, sports drinks, or salty snacks help your body retain what you drink.

And drink before you feel thirsty. By the time thirst registers in this kind of heat, you are already behind.

One practical note for Walt Disney World specifically: free cups of ice water are available at any quick service location. There is no reason to buy bottled water all day.

Where to Get Out of the Heat in the Disney World Parks

If you are in a park today, plan your indoor breaks rather than waiting until you feel unwell.

  • Magic Kingdom: Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Hall of Presidents, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Country Bear Musical Jamboree
  • EPCOT: Spaceship Earth, the American Adventure, Living with the Land, The Seas with Nemo and Friends
  • Hollywood Studios: Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, Walt Disney Presents, the indoor queues at Tower of Terror and Rise of the Resistance
  • Animal Kingdom: Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, Conservation Station, Festival of the Lion King, indoor restaurant seating

Long indoor shows are the play. Country Bear Musical Jamboree is a solid option at Magic Kingdom right now, since Carousel of Progress is currently closed.

Why There Is No Afternoon Relief This Week at Disney World

Central Florida normally has a built-in cooling mechanism this time of year. The afternoon thunderstorm rolls through around 3 p.m., knocks the heat index down, and buys everyone an hour of relief.

That is not happening this week.

A drier air mass is limiting rain chances, reducing storm chances. So the heat builds through the afternoon and stays there rather than getting interrupted.

Combine that with the “no overnight relief” language in the extreme HeatRisk description, and you have a stretch of heat that is essentially continuous.

Planning Around It Today at Disney World

Build breaks in rather than hoping you can outlast it.

The worst window runs from roughly 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Schedule water rides, indoor attractions, or a table-service meal during that stretch. A long lunch in air conditioning is not a wasted hour today; it is a strategy.

If you hold a Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party ticket this week, that works in your favor. Party ticket holders enter Magic Kingdom at 4 p.m., letting you skip the worst of the afternoon entirely while still getting up to eight hours inside.

Attending in costume? Reconsider anything heavy. A full costume while experiencing a dangerous heat index is genuinely risky, and the party runs through October 31, when conditions will be far more forgiving.

Know the Warning Signs

On a day like today, this matters more than any touring strategy.

Watch for heavy sweating that suddenly stops, dizziness, nausea, confusion, headache, muscle cramps, or a rapid pulse. If someone in your group stops sweating or seems confused, that is a medical emergency, not a break-time situation.

Every Walt Disney World park has First Aid, and cast members can direct you there immediately.

Halloween season is running. Summer is not close to finished, and this week is the proof.
